Characteristics and survival of patients with viral versus nonviral associated hepatocellular carcinoma: a multicenter cohort study.

Background: Viral hepatitis B and C are the leading causes of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). With obesity, metabolic-related disorders are increasingly associated with a higher incidence of nonviral HCC. This study aimed to investigate the characteristics, tumor features, treatment outcomes, and survival of patients with viral versus nonviral HCC.

Climate Changes and COVID-19.

Climatic change, which influences population growth and land usage, has been theorized to be linked to the emergence and spread of new viruses like the currently unfolding COVID-19 pandemic. In this chapter, we explain how climate change may have altered the beginning, transmission, and maybe even the sickness consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. Where possible, we also provide mechanistic explanations for how this may have occurred.

Assessment of IBD disease activity by Interleukin-6 and serum amyloid A in relation with fecal calprotectin and endoscopic indices.

Background And Study Aims: Close monitoring of disease activity in IBD patients is essential to avoid long term complications. Although endoscopic assessment is the ideal monitoring tool, the usage of noninvasive biomarkers is more practical and patient friendly. We aimed to study the performance of Interleukin-6(IL-6) and Serum Amyloid A(SAA) as serum biomarkers in assessment of the disease activity of IBD patients in correlation to C-reactive protein (CRP), Fecal Calprotectin (FC) and endoscopic indices.

Background: Gastrointestinal (GI) motility disorders are common in clinical settings, but physicians still lack sufficient understanding and effective management of these conditions.

Methods: This research assessed Egyptian physicians' knowledge, practices, and attitudes towards GI motility disorders. A cross-sectional survey employing a self-administered questionnaire was carried out among physicians in Egypt.

Perspectives and Management Strategies for Acute Colonic Intramural Hematoma.

Acute intramural hematoma of the colon is a rarely encountered clinical condition with diverse precipitating factors. Different acute and chronic complications emerge following hematoma formation, mandating high clinical suspicion for early diagnosis and optimum management. CECT represents the cornerstone for the proper demonstration of colonic hematomas and possible detection of complications as well as the underlying etiology.

Aim: To analyze differences in tumor behavior between patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV)-induced HCC and were either treated or not using DAAs.

Patients And Methods: This case-control study includes patients with HCV-related HCC who received generic DAAs (group I) and all non-DAA treated patients with HCC who presented to our clinic during the same period (group II).

Characteristics, management, and outcomes of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma in Africa: a multicountry observational study from the Africa Liver Cancer Consortium.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma is a leading cause of cancer-related death in Africa, but there is still no comprehensive description of the current status of its epidemiology in Africa. We therefore initiated an African hepatocellular carcinoma consortium aiming to describe the clinical presentation, management, and outcomes of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma in Africa.

Methods: We did a multicentre, multicountry, retrospective observational cohort study, inviting investigators from the African Network for Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases to participate in the consortium to develop hepatocellular carcinoma research databases and biospecimen repositories.
