Article Synopsis
  • Bovine colostrum (BC) delivered via a liposomal system was tested as a supplement for premature infants, aiming to reduce the incidence of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) due to its multiple beneficial factors for retinal development.
  • A controlled trial involving 211 preterm infants found that those receiving BC had a significantly lower incidence of ROP compared to those who did not receive it (5% vs. 16%), along with improved growth and lower rates of suspected sepsis.
  • The study concluded that BC intake positively impacted health outcomes in preterm infants, particularly reducing ROP, enhancing hemoglobin levels, and contributing to weight gain, although weight gain was the strongest predictor of reduced ROP.

Aim: The earlier the onset of proteinuria, the higher the incidence of genetic forms. Therefore, we aimed to analyse the spectrum of monogenic proteinuria in Egyptian children presenting at age <2 years.

Methods: The results of 27-gene panel or whole-exome sequencing were correlated with phenotype and treatment outcomes in 54 patients from 45 families.

Unlabelled: Despite of growing evidence of the beneficial effects of placental transfusion techniques, there is no available sufficient data about their effects on vulnerable hemodynamics and myocardium of premature infants. The purpose of this work is to study ventricular functions and hemodynamics after applying different placental transfusion techniques, delayed cord clamping (DCC), cut cord milking (C-UCM), and intact cord milking (I-UCM). Sixty-four infants delivered whether by C-section or vaginal delivery were randomly assigned to undergo C-UCM (20-30 cm), I-UCM (3-4 strippings), and DCC (30-60 s).
