In this study, bacteria residing in the gut of the rice weevils ( L.) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) feeding on aflatoxin-contaminated corn kernels were isolated and evaluated for their ability to suppress and to remove/degrade aflatoxin B1 (AFB1). Four morphologically distinct gut-associated bacterial isolates were isolated and identified as (RWGB1), (RWGB2), (RWGB3), and (RWGB4) based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis.

However, relatively little is known about the influence of spleen status on MP levels in patients with SCA.
Methods: Using a prospective study design we characterize circulating MP in 144 patients with SCA in steady state by assessing their cellular origin and their relationships to spleen status defined by clinical and imaging findings.

This study aimed to isolate and screen the anti-cancer activity of compounds and extracts from 40 natural products of marine organisms collected from the Gulf of Oman.
Methods: This study was carried out between January 2012 and December 2014 at the Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat, Oman.
Background: Azoxymethane (AOM) is a potent carcinogenic agent commonly used to induce colon cancer in rats; the cytotoxicity of AOM is considered to mediate oxidative stress. This study investigated the chemopreventive effect of three natural extracts [pomegranate peel extract (PomPE), papaya peel extract (PapPE) and seaweed extract (SE)] against AOM-induced oxidative stress and carcinogenesis in rat colon.
Methods: Eighty Sprague-Dawley rats (aged 4 weeks) were randomly divided into 8 groups (10 rats/group).
Aim: To study whether N-acetyltransferase 2 (NAT2) genotypes and phenotypes are associated with increased risk factor for gastric cancer in Omani patients and to study the clinico-pathological correlations and the prognostic significance of NAT2.
Methods: Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood of 100 gastric cancer patients and 100 control subjects. NAT2 genotyping was performed using DNA sequencing.
