Low Utility of Fluorodeoxyglucose-Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography for Detecting Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Patients Before Liver Transplantation.

Objectives: Our program routinely used fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography/computed tomography as part of the liver transplant evaluation of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma. The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of this imaging modality in the pretransplant work-up.

Materials And Methods: This was a retrospective chart review of our liver transplant database from January 2011 to December 2014 for all patients with hepatocellular carcinoma who underwent a liver transplant.

The usefulness of laparoscopic hernia repair in the management of incisional hernia following liver transplantation.

Introduction: The reported incidence of incisional hernia following orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) varies from 4% to 23%. Postoperative wound complications are less frequent after laparoscopic repair while maintaining low recurrence rates. We present our experience in managing this complication.

Invasive mucormycosis in a patient with liver cirrhosis: case report and review of the literature.

Introduction: Cutaneous Mucormycosis is a rare opportunistic infection caused by Zygomycetes class of fungi that is often fatal, requiring aggressive local control as well as systemic therapy. Few cases of mucormycosis were described in patients with liver cirrhosis, mostly rhino-orbital. To our knowledge, only two cases of upper extremity involvement was reported in cirrhosis while a few cases were reported in the post-transplant setting.

Progress and outcomes of the first high-volume pediatric liver transplantation program in Saudi Arabia.

In 2010, King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, established a dedicated Organ Transplant Center to overcome the inadequacy in transplantation care in the region. Due to the high need for solid organ transplantation in children, this center focused on pediatric transplantation. Between 2011 and 2013, a total of 112 pediatric liver transplantations have been performed in our center, mostly from living donors (n=103, 92%).

Liver transplant for hepatocellular carcinoma: experience in a Saudi population.

Objectives: We present our experience with deceased-donor liver transplant and living-donor liver transplant for hepatocellular carcinoma. Between 2001 and 2007, we transplanted 133 organs (84 deceased-donor liver transplants, 49 living-donor liver transplants) in 126 patients (4 retransplants). Twenty-three patients had hepatocellular carcinoma (14 deceased-donor liver transplants and 9 living-donor liver transplants).
