The prevalence of the debilitating chronic disease ulcerative colitis (UC) is increasing significantly. Mirabegron is a selective beta-3 adrenergic receptor (β-3 AR) agonist used to treat an overactive bladder. Previous reports have demonstrated the antidiarrheal effect of β-3AR agonists.

Bleomycin is a well-recognized antineoplastic drug. However, pulmonary fibrosis (PF) is considered to be the principal drawback that greatly limits its use. Here, we sought to investigate ability of the neurokinin receptor 1 blocker, aprepitant, to prevent PF caused by bleomycin.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the role of chemokines and their receptors, specifically CCR7 and ACKR4, in breast cancer development and metastasis, looking at their expression in both metastatic and non-metastatic tissue.
  • Researchers used RT-PCR to analyze these receptors in breast cancer samples and ELISA to measure CCL21 levels in the serum, comparing findings to healthy controls.
  • The results show higher levels of CCR7 and CCL21 in metastatic cases, while ACKR4 is more expressed in non-metastatic cases, suggesting that targeting these chemokine receptors could potentially improve treatment outcomes and cancer prognosis.

MECOM oncogene expression correlates with chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) progression. Here we show that the knockdown of MECOM (E) and MECOM (ME) isoforms reduces cell division at low cell density, inhibits colony-forming cells by 34% and moderately reduces BCR-ABL1 mRNA and protein expression but not tyrosine kinase catalytic activity in K562 cells. We also show that both E and ME are expressed in CD34(+) selected cells of both CML chronic phase (CML-CP), and non-CML (normal) origin.
