Association between Genetic Polymorphisms in MicroRNAs 196a2 (rs11614913) and 34 b/c (rs4938723) and Risk of Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Egyptian Patients.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common cancer with substantial cancer-related deaths worldwide. Deregulation of some genetic polymorphisms has been identified in HCC.

Objective: We aimed to demonstrate the frequency of miRNA 196a2 rs11614913 and miRNA 34 b/c rs4938723 gene polymorphisms in HCC patients and their correlation with the clinical features and laboratory findings at diagnosis.

Role of EUS in detection of liver metastasis not seen by computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging during staging of pancreatic, gastrointestinal, and thoracic malignancies.

Background And Objectives: Liver metastases might not be detected by computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) due to their small size, but they can be detected by EUS. Furthermore, EUS-FNA has a significant impact on improving the diagnostic accuracy of EUS. The purpose of this study was to assess the feasibility of EUS in detection of occult small hepatic focal lesions at the time of primary tumor staging, not seen by CT or MRI.

Seroepidemiological study on human brucellosis in Assiut Governorate.

Brucellosis is the most important zoonotic disease constituting a public health problem in Assiut Governorate, hence this study was carried out to determine the prevalence of brucellosis among humans in Assiut Governorate. A total of 7154 peripheral blood samples were collected from patients with fever at Assiut Fever Hospital during the period from 2002-2003. A full detailed anamnestic and clinical assessment in the form of questionnaire was designed for each individual to determine the risk factors with specific emphasis to age, sex, residence and occupation.
