Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated how macrophages and PD-1 expression influence tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) and treatment outcomes in advanced cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) patients, exploring their relationship with clinical features.
  • Twenty-five metastatic CCA patients and 19 healthy controls were analyzed for immune cell levels using flow cytometry, revealing significant differences in CD4, CD8, and macrophage levels between groups.
  • Findings indicated that higher CD4 levels correlate with better progression-free survival (PFS), while increased PD-1 expression and certain macrophage profiles are linked to poorer outcomes, suggesting that immune factors could help predict treatment responses in CCA.

Background: We aimed to monitor the phenotypic changes in macrophages and their polarization in patients with acute viral respiratory diseases, including coronavirus disease diagnosis, focusing on the variations in the percentages of macrophages and monocytes and their sub-populations in those patients compared to healthy control. Moreover, we defined the correlation between macrophage subtypes and some inflammatory indices.

Methods: Twenty-seven patients with clinical and radiologic diagnosis of acute viral respiratory infection admitted in Al-Azhar and Assiut University hospitals were recruited.

Aim: To evaluate the distribution of the Oncotype DX Recurrence Score (a validated prognostic/predictive tool in early-stage estrogen-receptor positive [ER+] breast cancer) and its impact on adjuvant treatment decisions in the United Arab Emirates.

Methods: A retrospective analysis of a single-center cohort.

Results: The analysis included 47 node-negative ER+ breast cancer patients with low-to-intermediate risk according to the St.
