Unlabelled: Children with Down syndrome (DS) have a higher incidence of overweight and obesity compared to typically developing peers. The fat mass and obesity-associated gene (FTO) is one of the early identified genes linked to obesity in various populations. To date, the FTO rs17817449 gene polymorphism has not been investigated in overweight/obese-DS (ODS) individuals.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with a state of chronic inflammation which is responsible for many of the pathophysiological changes detected in these patients. Many studies have evaluated the effect of Ramadan fasting on renal function and cardiovascular morbidity in CKD patients, but the effect of Ramadan fasting on markers of chronic inflammation was not previously assessed. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of Ramadan fasting on some markers of chronic inflammation in CKD patients with estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) less than 60 mL/min/1.

Introduction: Speckle tracking echocardiography (STE) is a new emerging method for evaluation of the cardiac systolic performance. We characterized left ventricular (LV) systolic functions of hypocalcemic infants, and assessed the effects of calcium and vitamin D supplementations on LV systolic functions using two-dimensional STE.

Patients And Methods: A prospective controlled study was conducted in Mansoura University Children's Hospital, Egypt from 2015 to 2018 including 88 hypocalcemic infants (patient group) and 30 healthy controls.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common causes of cancer-induced death. Somatic mutation of the p53 gene is the most common genetic abnormality so far described in human cancer and there is evidence that supports a high level of p53 alterations in HCC. The aim of this study was to investigate serum levels of p53 in Egyptian patients with HCC, and its relation to other prognostic factors such as tumor grade, alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), and liver function tests in an attempt to clarify their significance in the pathogenesis of the disease.
