Prevalence and factors contributing to missed opportunities for vaccination in Mogadishu, Somalia.

Objectives: Vaccination is a critical public health intervention that significantly reduces morbidity and mortality from vaccine-preventable diseases. Despite the proven benefits of vaccines, missed opportunities for vaccination (MOVs) remain a significant challenge in many low-income countries, including Somalia. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and identify the factors contributing to MOVs in Mogadishu, Somalia.

Progress and experiences of implementing an integrated disease surveillance and response system in Somalia; 2016-2023.

Introduction: In 2021, a regional strategy for integrated disease surveillance was adopted by member states of the World Health Organization Eastern Mediterranean Region. But before then, member states including Somalia had made progress in integration of their disease surveillance systems. We report on the progress and experiences of implementing an integrated disease surveillance and response system in Somalia between 2016 and 2023.

WhatsApp supervision for a lay-led Islamic trauma-focused intervention in Somaliland: Qualitative content analysis.

Clinical supervision is critical for the uptake of psychotherapy but difficult to facilitate in countries with limited providers, resources, and internet infrastructure. Innovative supervision approaches are needed to increase access to mental health treatments in low-to-middle income countries (LMICs). This study examined the content and feasibility of remote WhatsApp text supervision conducted as part of an open clinical trial in Somaliland.

Infrequent cause of small bowel obstruction in a child: A lemon.

Introduction: Small bowel obstruction in children induced by phytobezoar impaction is reported here. Bezoars are classified into four types: phytobezoars, trichobezoars, pharmacobezoars, and lactobezoars. We present here the first case of lemon shelves induced by small intestinal obstruction without previous gastrointestinal surgery and diagnosis was made erect abdominal x-ray.

Systematic Review of Modern Case Series of Squamous Cell Cancer Arising in a Chronic Ulcer (Marjolin's Ulcer) of the Skin.

Purpose: Marjolin's ulcer is an aggressive cutaneous malignancy that arises in chronic nonhealing wounds. A review of modern series describing Marjolin's ulcer would be helpful in defining optimal management strategies and expected outcomes.

Methods: A systematic review was performed on October 18, 2018, by querying Medline and EMBASE.

Axillary Management in Breast Cancer Patients: A Comprehensive Review of the Key Trials.

Optimal regional management in breast cancer patients has yet to be established. In patients who are clinically node-negative, but sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB)-positive, the treatment paradigm has shifted toward the de-escalation of further axillary management. In patients with 2 or fewer positive sentinel nodes, the standard of practice has shifted away from complete axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) as a result of the ACOSOG Z0011 trial.

Risk Factors for Sustained Cholera Transmission, Juba County, South Sudan, 2014.

We conducted a case-control study to identify risk factors for the 2014 cholera outbreak in Juba County, South Sudan. Illness was associated with traveling or eating away from home; treating drinking water and receiving oral cholera vaccination were protective. Oral cholera vaccination should be used to complement cholera prevention efforts.
