Objectives: The metabolic components in neonates may be affected by maternal diabetes mellitus.

Design And Methods: To investigate the alterations in lipid metabolism and the possible atherogenic risk, the lipoprotein a (Lp a), apoproteins, lipid profile, glucose concentrations were measured (ELISA, immunodiffusion and enzymatic) in 77 cord blood samples from diabetic and healthy pregnant mothers.

Results: The body weight, cord glucose and both apoproteins were increased in neonates of gestational and noninsulin dependent diabetic (GDM, NIDDM) than in neonates of nondiabetic mothers (NNDM).

Synopsis of recent research by authors named "Mohamed A Abd El-Wahed"

  • - Mohamed A Abd El-Wahed's research primarily focuses on the impact of dietary habits and metabolic factors on health, especially concerning iron deficiency and lipid profiles in children and neonates.
  • - One of his significant studies in 2014 examined the iron status and dietary patterns of obese primary school children in Egypt, highlighting the relationship between obesity and poor iron intake.
  • - Another study in 2003 explored the lipid profiles in neonates born to mothers with different types of diabetes, identifying increased cardiometabolic risks associated with maternal diabetes on neonatal health outcomes.
