The most important ionic precursor of gold, [AuCl] is used in aqueous solution leading to chlorohydroxoaurates species, [AuCl(OH)] (x = 1-4) due to partial hydrolysis. Their UV spectral signatures are still relatively unknown though very useful in many domains of application. Individual spectra of each of them are determined for the first time thanks to a thorough experimental investigation comprising the range 200-250 nm, surpringly ignored up to now.

According to dynamic light scattering (DLS), a two-step pH adjustment was necessary for growth termination and colloidal stabilization. The pore size was controlled by cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), and a tiny amount of neutral surfactant F127 was added to minimize the coalescence between US-MSNs and to favor the transition towards internal ordering.

A detailed picture of the three-dimensional structure and coordination modes of citrate, acetate, succinate and glutarate to AuNPs is obtained by C and Na solid-state NMR in combination with computational modelling and electron microscopy. The binding between the carboxylates and the AuNP surface is found to occur in three different modes.

Reactivity studies by contacting compound 2 with ethylene, hydrogen/ethylene, propene, or hydrogen/propene, at a temperature of 200 °C revealed alkene hydrogenation.
