Concomitant Parvovirus B19 and CMV Infection in a Child with Kidney Transplant.

Parvovirus B19 is a common human infection worldwide and is typically self-limiting in healthy persons but immunocompromised patients require specific treatments. Pretransplant B19 screening doesn't seem to be important or have any impact on the transplantation process but cytomegalovirus (CMV) study is crucial. We present a kidney-transplanted child infected by parvovirus B19 and cytomegalovirus presented with intractable anemia and raised creatinine.

The prevalence of hypercalciuria in children is 3%-10% globally and up to 35% in the United States. Hypercalciuria in children has many presentations; it causes different metabolic disorders and can negatively affect a child's growth. It also increases the risk of low bone mineral density and urinary tract infections.

Hemangioendothelioma as a rare cause of lower gastrointestinal bleeding - a case report.

Introduction And Importance: Gastrointestinal bleeding is a serious health threat, especially when it originates from the small intestine, often termed small bowel bleeding (SBB). Hemangioendothelioma, a rare vascular tumor, can be a significant yet uncommon cause of gastrointestinal bleeding. This case report highlights hemangioendothelioma's diagnostic challenges and clinical significance in SBB.

Efficacy and safety of alpha-pinene capsule in the management of functional dyspepsia and eradication of helicobacter pylori: a randomized clinical trial.

Epidemiological studies in adults have conflicting results regarding the association between infection and CKD.

The Added-on of Syrup in the Treatment of Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria Resistant to Standard-Dose of Secondary-generation H Antihistamine: A Double-Blind Randomized Clinical Trial.

Background: Although antihistamines are the first-line treatment for chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU), 50% of patients don't respond to standard doses. In this study, the effectiveness of fruit syrup in combination with antihistamines was assessed in patients with CSU.

Methods: This double-blind randomized clinical trial was conducted in Shiraz between December 2019 and December 2020.

Cytomegalovirus keratitis in acute myeloblastic leukemia.

A 58-year-old woman presented with acute myeloblastic leukemia (AML) developed a bilateral dendritic epithelial keratitis without retinitis. The patient was initially treated with oral acyclovir with a possible diagnosis of herpes simplex virus (HSV) keratitis. Validity of the Adrogué-Madias Formula for the Management of Acute Dysnatremias in Critically Ill Children: A Prospective Multicenter Analysis.

Objective: Current conventional formulas do not predict the expected changes in serum sodium after administration of various fluids to correct serum sodium abnormalities. The Adrogué-Madias formula is currently the preferred and widely used fluid prescription for adult patients with dysnatremias, but its therapeutic efficacy has not been validated in pediatric patients.

Methods: In this prospective study, we used the Adrogué-Madias formula for calculating the appropriate rate of various fluids administration to correct serum sodium abnormalities in 7 critically ill children with acute dysnatremias.

It is well established that upper and lower airways are often clumped together when diagnosing and treating a disease. This study was designed to determine the prevalence of upper and lower airway diseases and to assess the effect of sociodemographic factors on the prevalence and the comorbidity of these disorders. This cross-sectional population-based study included patients with ages ranging between 15 to 65 years, who were referred to allergy outpatient clinics in various provinces of Iran from April to September 2020.

New Biomarkers in Early Diagnosis of Acute Kidney Injury in Children.

Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) is a common condition with a high risk of mortality and morbidity, so, early diagnosis and management of AKI is very important in clinical practice. Despite significant progress in the management of AKI, it still carries high morbidity and mortality. BUN and serum creatinine are not very sensitive nor specific for the diagnosis of AKI because they are affected by many renal and non-renal factors that are independent of kidney injury or kidney function and change significantly only after significant kidney injury and with a substantial time delay.

In the present study, T-cell function was assessed using Carboxyfluorescein diacetate succinimidyl ester (CFSE) dilution test after stimulation with commonly used Phytohaemagglutinin (PHA) or anti-CD3/anti-CD28 coated beads in pediatric patients with recurrent infections. Seven infants with recurrent infections and seven sex/age-matched healthy infants were included in this study.

:There has been considerable interest in target immunotherapy in patients with diabetes. This study was designed to identify the effect of BCG vaccination in the treatment of Iranian patients with longstanding diabetes mellitus type 1. After approval of the cross-sectional study protocol by the ethics committee under number IRCT2017042919940N2, a total of 19 Iranian volunteers with diabetes mellitus type 1 completed this 48-month study.

Renal Involvement in a Child with COVID-19 Infection and its Management with CRRT.

Novel Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a contagious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV 2) presenting mainly as an acute respiratory illness with interstitial and alveolar pneumonia. It can also affect multiple organs such as the kidney, heart, intestinal tract, blood, and nervous system. We report a 10-year-old boy presenting with severe cough, tachypnea, retraction and respiratory distress, fever, myalgia, oliguria, and anuria thereafter.

Evaluation of the relationship between serum carnitine levels and intradialytic complications in children with kidney failure.

Background: Carnitine plays a crucial role in the metabolism of fatty acids as well as energy production. Previous research has suggested a significant decrease in carnitine levels in patients with kidney failure and those undergoing hemodialysis. Therefore, we designed this study to assess the prevalence and characteristics of carnitine deficiency and its association with hemodialysis complications in the pediatric population.

Pruritus-reducing effects of omega-3 fatty acids in hemodialysis patients: A cross-over randomized clinical trial.

Introduction: Chronic kidney disease-associated pruritus is a common complication in patients with end-stage renal disease. In this study, we have explored the outcome of omega-3 supplementary intake for the treatment of this symptom.

Methods: This double-blinded, randomized, crossover study was conducted in two dialysis centers in which 40 hemodialysis patients suffering from pruritus were randomly assigned into two groups (Group A and Group B).

Efficacy of rituximab therapy in children with nephrotic syndrome: a 10-year experience from an Iranian pediatric hospital.

Background: There are controversy results in the optimal management of children with steroid-dependent and steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome (SDNS, SRNS). This study aimed to determine the efficacy and safety of rituximab (RTX) in these pediatric patients.

Methods: Medical records of 1-18-year-old Iranian children with SDNS (n = 26) and SRNS (n = 22) with a follow-up for at least 24 months were included from 2009 to 2019.

Evaluating the value of different sonographic findings in diagnosis of acute appendicitis in children.

Introduction: Appendicitis is one of the most common paediatric surgical emergencies occurring in about 7% of healthy children. To make a definitive diagnosis preferably avoiding unnecessary X-ray radiation exposure, ultrasound is the ideal modality. The aim of this study is to evaluate the diagnostic value of sonographic findings in children with acute appendicitis and comparing them with surgical findings to demonstrate the safety, simplicity and accuracy of this procedure in emergency departments as the first diagnostic procedure.

Role of Selenium Deficiency in Pediatrics with Acquired Hypothyroidism.
