Background And Objectives: Plasma-derived medicinal products (PDMPs) are essential to treat many chronic conditions such as haemophilia and primary immunodeficiency. Patients living in low middle-income and low-income countries (LMICs and LICs, respectively) have limited access to PDMPs. The aim of this article is to explore the challenges of accessing PDMPs in LMICs and LICs.

The objective of this study was to formulate and evaluate valsartan (VLT) ethosomes to prepare an optimized formula of VLT-entrapped ethosomes that could be incorporated into a sustained release transdermal gel dosage form. The formulation of the prepared ethosomal gel was investigated and subjected to in vitro drug release studies, ex vivo test, and in vivo studies to assess the effectiveness of ethosomal formulation in enhancing the bioavailability of VLT as a poorly soluble drug and in controlling its release from the transdermal gel dosage form. The acquired results are as follows: Dependent responses were particle size, polydispersity index, zeta potential, and entrapment efficiency.

Cardiac surgeries induce many inflammatory responses with remarkable clinical implications. Tryptophan (Trp) is a precursor for serotonin, melatonin and kynurenine (Kyn). Plasma kynurenic acid (Kyna) and Kyn concentrations are thought to be related to the severity of inflammation.

Implant loosening is not a new phenomenon, nor is implant migration; however they are rarely seen after knee arthroplasty surgery. Complications with patellar buttons have been reported before with peg failure, loosening, and patella fracture; however extra-articular migration is extremely rare. We report an unusual case of patellar button migration 11 years after total knee arthroplasty to the prepatellar bursa.

Background: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) antigen and antibody combination assays have been launched as a cost-effective alternative to nucleic acid testing (NAT) for reducing the antibody-negative window period (WP). Later, a HCV antigen chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA) became available.

Study Design And Methods: A panel composed of 337 HCV NAT-yield samples that were characterized for viral load (VL) and genotype was used to compare the sensitivity of two combination enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (Monolisa, Bio-Rad; and Murex, formerly Abbott) and a HCV antigen CLIA (Abbott).

Background: Knowledge about the viral load (VL) distributions in different stages of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is essential to compare the efficacy of serologic screening and nucleic acid testing (NAT) in preventing transfusion transmission risk. We studied HCV-RNA levels in Egyptian blood donors in the preseroconversion window period (WP) and in later anti-HCV-positive stages of infection.

Study Design And Methods: Subsets of individual-donation (ID)-NAT and anti-HCV-yield samples from a screening study among 119,756 donors were tested for VL by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR).

Quality of life (QoL) in hemophilia is an important area in hemophilia outcome assessment. The Haemo-QoL instrument is a set of questionnaires to measure QoL in those children. The objectives of this study was to assess health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in Egyptian hemophilic children and adolescents using an Arabic version of the Haemo-QoL questionnaire.

We report a rare case of a 'giant ganglion' with 24 x 10 x 12 cm dimensions originating from the semimembranosus tendon. The patient presented with chronic pain and a palpable mass in his left calf located between the superior aspect of the popliteal fossa and the distal third of the calf. MRI revealed the mass to be a ganglion in close relation to the semimembranosus muscle at its attachment to the tibia.

Qena is the southernmost governorate of Egypt included in the Epidemiology 1, 2, 3 national study. A probability sample selected 17,822 individuals from 2,950 households in 34 ezbas and 10 villages from a total rural target population of 1,731,252 (based on the most recent 1986 census of the population by the Egyptian Central Agency for Public Mobilization And Statistics). Parasitologic examination of urine and stool were made for Schistosoma haematobium and S.

In the Assiut, Egypt Epidemiology 1, 2, 3 investigation, a sample of 14,204 persons in 10 villages, 31 ezbas (satellite communities), and 2,286 households was drawn from a rural population of 1,598,607. Parasitologic examination of urine and stool were made for Schistosoma haematobium and S. mansoni, and physical and ultrasound examinations were made on a 20% subsample.

Twenty-nine maternal deaths were identified among 8656 pregnant women residing in Assiut city and three surrounding villages (Upper Egypt). This gives a maternal mortality ratio of 368 per 100,000 live births. Of these maternal deaths 83% were due to direct obstetric causes (hemorrhage, eclampsia, ruptured uterus and sepsis).

Abdominal ultrasonographic examination was performed in 61 hospitalized patients with chronic liver diseases and 253 school children from a village endemic for Schistosoma haematobium and were compared with 142 urban children without exposure to Schistosoma. The prevalence of ultrasound-detectable hepatomegaly and splenomegaly and the degree of periportal fibrosis was compared between those with and without S. haematobium infection.
