Non-equilibrium patterns are widespread in nature and often arise from the self-organization of constituents through nonreciprocal chemotactic interactions. In this study, we demonstrate how active oil-in-water droplet mixtures with predator-prey interactions can result in a variety of self-organized patterns. By manipulating physical parameters, the droplet diameter ratio and number ratio, we identify distinct classes of patterns within a binary droplet system, rationalize the pattern formation, and quantify motilities.

Here we show that using Broccoli aptamers, quantitative study of transcription in various regulatory scenarios is possible without a translational step. To explore the method we studied several regulatory scenarios that we analyzed using thermodynamic occupancy-based models, and found excellent agreement with previous studies.

The potential design space of DNA-coated colloids is large, but its exploration is hampered by a reliance on chemically modified DNA that is slow and expensive to commercially synthesize. Here we introduce a method to controllably tailor the sequences of DNA-coated particles by covalently appending new sequence domains onto the DNA grafted to colloidal particles.

However, these circuits often lack crucial properties, such as signal turnover and the ability to transiently respond to successive input signals that require the continuous input of chemical energy. Here, we introduce a method for providing such energy to strand displacement networks in a controlled fashion: an engineered DNA helicase, Rep-X, that transiently dehybridizes specific DNA complexes, enabling the strands in the complex to participate in downstream hybridization or strand displacement reactions.

Active droplets exhibit self-propulsion and pairwise repulsion due to solubilization processes and/or solubilization products raising the droplet's interfacial tension. Here, we report emulsions with the opposite behavior, wherein solubilization decreases the interfacial tension and causes droplets to attract.

Methods: From July 2012 to December 2020, the two referral centers of the registry were solicited to advise on 1119 cases. Referral pathologists systematically reviewed all of the initial histological diagnoses.

The sequence-specific hybridization of DNA facilitates its use as a building block for designer nanoscale structures and reaction networks that perform computations. However, the strong binding energy of Watson-Crick base pairing that underlies this specificity also causes the DNA dehybridization rate to depend sensitively on sequence length and temperature. This strong dependency imposes stringent constraints on the design of multi-step DNA reactions.

Methods: We analyzed somatic copy number aberration (CNA) profiles in 87 OGCT tumors and performed whole exome sequencing (WES) on 24 OGCT tumor and matched germline samples to further elucidate their molecular genetic landscape.
Placental mesenchymal dysplasia (PMD) occurs in about 1 in 5000 pregnancies. The differential diagnosis between PMD and partial mole is difficult on ultrasound scan, and karyotyping plays a key role in distinguishing PMD from partial mole. Our report is the first to report on the discordancy for PMD in a monochorionic setting.

Purpose: Evidence suggests that premenopausal obesity decreases and postmenopausal obesity increases breast cancer risk. Because it is not well known whether this is subtype dependent, we studied the association between body mass index (BMI) and age at breast cancer diagnosis, or the probability of being diagnosed with a specific breast cancer phenotype, by menopausal status.
Methods: All patients with non-metastatic operable breast cancer from the University Hospital Leuven diagnosed between January 1, 2000 and December 31, 2013 were included (n = 7020) in this cross-sectional study.
Uterine leiomyosarcomas (uLMS) are rare, aggressive malignancies for which limited treatment options are available. To gain novel molecular insights into uLMS and identify potential novel therapeutic targets, we characterized 84 uLMS samples for genome-wide somatic copy number alterations, mutations, gene fusions and gene expression and performed a data integration analysis. We found that alterations affecting TP53, RB1, PTEN, MED12, YWHAE and VIPR2 were present in the majority of uLMS.

Our purpose was to evaluate whole body (WB)-DWI/MRI for diagnosis, staging and operability assessment of patients suspected for ovarian cancer compared to CT.
Methods: One hundred and sixty-one patients suspected for ovarian carcinoma underwent 3 T WB-DWI/MRI and contrast-enhanced CT.
Objective: Recent studies suggest that mucinous borderline ovarian tumors (MBOTs) belong to a high-risk group that is more likely to develop an invasive recurrence. The objective is to determine these risk factors.
Methods: A monocentric retrospective review of all consecutive patients with intestinal-type MBOT diagnosed between 1993 and 2013.
