Brain metastasis from urachal carcinoma.

Background: Urachal carcinoma (UC) is a rare variant of bladder carcinoma. Only seven cases of brain metastasis from UC have been reported in the literature thus far.

Case Description: A 77-year-old female was diagnosed with a brain tumor in her left cerebellum 2 years after she underwent surgery for a primary UC in the bladder.

Prognosis After Laparoscopic Gastrectomy in Patients with Pathological Stage II or III Gastric Cancer Who Were Preoperatively Diagnosed with Clinical Stage I: Propensity Score Matching Analysis of a Multicenter Dataset.

Background: Laparoscopic gastrectomy (LG) is a standard approach for patients with clinical stage I gastric cancer in East Asia; however, following surgery, these patients may be pathologically diagnosed with stage II or III cancer. The prognosis of patients with gastric cancer migration from clinical stage I to pathological stage II or III after LG has not been completely clarified.

Methods: To compare the prognosis following LG and open gastrectomy (OG) in patients with pathological stage II or III gastric cancer who were preoperatively diagnosed with stage I cancer, we conducted a retrospective analysis using a multicenter dataset comprising details of 3480 patients who underwent gastrectomy between 2010 and 2014 at nine participating institutions.

Background: Left ventricular (LV) longitudinal myocardial systolic dysfunction (LVSD) has been identified in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients, and it should be considered the first marker of a preclinical form of DM-related cardiac dysfunction. Overweight has been postulated to contribute to the development of LVSD in T2DM patients, but the impact of amount of body fat mass on LVSD in T2DM patients remains uncertain.

However, the prognostic value of HMGB1 in ampullary cancer has not been studied.

Methods: Patients with adenocarcinoma of the ampulla of Vater who underwent R0 resection with pancreaticoduodenectomy between 2001 and 2011 were included in the present multi-institutional study.

Conversely, kidney transplantation (KT) is performed for patients with end-stage renal disease as a renal replacement therapy.

Effect of physical therapy on early knee osteoarthritis with medial meniscal posterior tear assessed by MRI T2 mapping and 3D-to-2D registration technique: A prospective intervention study.

The purpose of this study was to verify that exercise aimed at improving knee kinematics in early-stage knee osteoarthritis (OA) patients with medial meniscus posterior root tears (MMPRTs) reduces knee adduction angle during gait and prevents rapid cartilage degeneration in the medial compartment of the knee. Subjects were randomly assigned to an adapting alignment exercise (AAE) group, with the goal of improving knee kinematics, and a muscle training and exercise (MTE) group. Before the start of the six-month intervention and following its completion, we performed an analysis of knee kinematics during gait using a 3D-to-2D registration technique and identified the area of cartilage degeneration using MRI T2 mapping.

Porous tantalum tibial component is durable with excellent bone ingrowth, higher knee scores, and long-term survivorship. However, to our knowledge, the effect of posterior cruciate-retaining (CR) and posterior cruciate-substituting (PS) porous tantalum tibial component has not been reported. Clinical Course and Management of Vein of Galen Varix of the Neonate: A Case Report and Literature Review.

A 28-year-old pregnant woman underwent an emergency caesarian section after 39 weeks of gestation because of decreased fetal movement and baseline fetal heart rate variability. The neonate was diagnosed with neonatal asphyxia and presented with right cardiac failure due to pulmonary hypertension. Outcome of arthroscopy-assisted treatment for distal clavicle fractures.

Hypothesis: The purpose of the present study was described as the arthroscopically assisted procedure that uses a synthetic conoid ligament reconstruction using Zip Tight (Zimmer biomet, Warsaw, USA) and fracture-site fixation with K-wire. Our hypothesis was that this technique provided a satisfactory functional outcome with minimum complication.

The First Autopsy Case of Fatal Acute Cardiac Failure after Administration of Carfilzomib in a Patient with Multiple Myeloma.

Carfilzomib (CFZ) improves progression-free survival for patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma (MM) but has shown higher frequency of cardiovascular adverse events (CVAEs) than other proteasome inhibitors. We report the first autopsy case of acute death from cardiac failure shortly after administration of carfilzomib. A 74-year-old female was diagnosed with IgA MM after a 2-year period of smoldering MM.

Association between serum calcium levels and prognosis, hematoma volume, and onset of cerebral hemorrhage in patients undergoing hemodialysis.

Background: High serum calcium levels should be avoided in patients on hemodialysis (HD) because they can induce cardiovascular diseases and worsen the patient's prognosis. In contrast, low serum calcium levels worsen the prognosis of patients with cerebral hemorrhage in the general population. So far, whether serum calcium levels in patients on HD are associated with cerebral hemorrhage remains unknown.

[A Case of Curatively Resected Rectal Cancer with Preservation of Urinary Function after Chemotherapy].

A55 -year-old man was diagnosed with rectal cancer invading the urinary bladder and swollen para-aortic lymph nodes. Since distant metastasis was indicated and total pelvic exenteration was required, 6 courses of chemotherapy with mFOLFOX6 plus panitumumab were performed. After the chemotherapy, the rectal cancer and para-aortic lymph nodes significantly decreased in size, and novel distant metastasis was not observed in CT scans.

Metastatic gastric adenocarcinoma of the tongue with initial symptoms of glossodynia.

A 60-year-old woman presented to our department with severe tongue pain. On initial examination, the mucosal surface of the tongue was intact but a hard submucosal mass on the dorsum of the tongue was detected on palpation. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated an ill-defined tumor in the intrinsic tongue muscles.

Diurnal repeated exercise promotes slow-wave activity and fast-sigma power during sleep with increase in body temperature: a human crossover trial.

The effects of exercise on sleep have been explored from various perspectives, but little is known about how the effects of acute exercise on sleep are produced through physiological functions. We used a protocol of multiple daytime sessions of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise and examined the subsequent effects on sleep structure, core body temperature (CBT), distal-proximal skin temperature gradient (DPG), and subjective parameters. Fourteen healthy men who did not exercise regularly were evaluated under the baseline (no exercise) and exercise conditions on a within-subject crossover basis.

Prediction of Nonadherence and Renal Prognosis by Pre-Transplantation Serum Phosphate Levels.

BACKGROUND Identifying characteristics of patients at high risk of poor adherence before transplantation would be advantageous. However, the optimal approach for characterizing such patients remains unknown. We aimed to evaluate the association between factors for hemodialysis nonadherence and post-transplant renal prognosis.

[Investigation of transition from pediatric to adult health care for patients with special health-care needs for neurological disease dating from childhood].

We investigated the patients followed in our hospital's adult neurology department to evaluate issues during the transition from pediatric to adult health care for patients with special health-care needs for neurological diseases. There has been an increase in the number of transition patients, and they were often recommended for the transition by pediatricians. Many patients had complications such as epilepsy, and there were also patients with an intractable disease.

A 2-year follow-up of isolated Medial Patellofemoral Ligament Reconstruction by using soft suture anchor and adjustable cortical fixation system.

Purpose: Numerous surgical techniques and fixation methods have been described in medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction such as choice of graft, graft fixation method of patella/femur and initial tension. We describe short term clinical results of MPFL reconstruction by using soft suture anchor and adjustable cortical fixation system.

Methods: Twenty-four patients who underwent isolated MPFL reconstruction by using soft suture anchor and adjustable cortical fixation system were included in this study.
