Article Synopsis
  • - This study reviewed randomized controlled trials (RCTs) focusing on how traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treats angina pectoris in coronary heart disease patients after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), analyzing various research design elements and outcomes.
  • - A total of 188 RCTs were included, encompassing 15,521 patients, with variations in sample sizes and treatment groups that combined TCM with guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT).
  • - The study identified common TCM syndromes among patients and categorized numerous outcome indicators used to measure treatment effectiveness, pointing out that most trials lacked a defined follow-up period.

Article Synopsis
  • * Out of 10,210 SCA cases, most (85.6%) were non-shockable; both shockable and non-shockable cases peaked in the morning (08:00 - 11:59) and decreased significantly during the early morning hours (00:00 - 03:59).
  • * The findings suggest that there is a distinct daily rhythm in SCA occurrences, indicating that increased focus on first-aid and resuscitation resources is essential during morning hours in the community.

Endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndMT) is a pivotal event in diabetic retinopathy (DR). This study explored the role of circRNA zinc finger protein 532 (circZNF532) in regulating EndMT in DR progression. Human retinal microvascular endothelial cells (HRMECs) were exposed to high glucose (HG) to induce the DR cell model.

The impact of recrystallization conditions and drying temperatures on the crystallization and digestibility of native waxy maize (Zea mays L.) starch (NWMS) was explored. This study involved subjecting NWMS to concurrent debranching and crystallization at 50 °C for up to 7 days.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the leading causes of blindness in diabetic patients. However, the pathogenesis of DR is complex, and no firm conclusions have been drawn so far. It has become a hot spot in ophthalmology research to deeply study the mechanism of DR pathological changes and find effective treatment options.

Background: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a common complication of diabetes mellitus that poses a threat to adults. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play a key role in DR progression. However, the role and mechanism of miR-192-5p in DR remain unclear.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a serious long-term complication of diabetes. However, the current treatment of DR is still challenging. We aimed to investigate the role of lncRNA SNHG1/miR-340-5p/PIK3CA in DR and the mechanisms involved.

In this review, we summarize the progression of several parameters assessed by spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) in recent years for the detection of glaucoma. Monitoring the progression of defects in the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness is essential. Imaging and analysis of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) and inner plexiform layer (IPL), respectively, have been of great importance.

Purpose: Our aim is to test the validity, reliability, and acceptability of the Chinese version of European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire-Bone Metastases 22 (EORTC QLQ-BM22) module to assess health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in patients with bone metastases in China.

Methods: Patients with histological confirmation of malignancy and bone metastases from Tianjin Cancer Institution and Hospital from June 2013 to April 2014 were enrolled in this study. All patients self-administered the EORTC QLQ-BM22 and the EORTC QLQ-C30.

To investigate the semi-quantitative method for evaluating lipid accumulation in livers, male C57BL/6J mice (CON), HFD mice characterized with the mild fatty liver induced by high-fat diet, and KKAy mice charactered with the moderately severe fatty liver induced by high-caloric diet were used. The lipid accumulation was estimated by the histological examination (HE staining) and the content of hepatic triglyceride, separately. Echo-intensity of two selected regions along the ultrasound transmission direction was recorded using a small animal ultrasonographic system, and the echo-intensity attenuation coefficient was calculated.

To investigate the mechanisms of a compound (FF16), compatibility of Rhodiola crenulata, Cordyceps militaris, and Rheum palmatum, on glucose metabolic disorders, the IRF mice charactered with insulin resistance and glucose metabolic disorders induced by high-fat diet in C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into 3 groups; IRF, rosiglitazone (Rosi) and FF16. The glucose metabolism was evaluated by fasting blood glucose (FBG) levels and intraperitoneal glucose tolerance test (IPGTT). The insulin sensitivity was estimated by insulin tolerance test (ITT), fasting serum insulin levels and the index of HOMA-IR.
