Long-range sequencing information is required for haplotype phasing, de novo assembly, and structural variation detection. Current long-read sequencing technologies can provide valuable long-range information but at a high cost with low accuracy and high DNA input requirements. This study explored family caregivers' use of technology to care for people with dementia living at home. Three questions were pursued: (1) what are the important, unmet needs of family caregivers, (2) how do they use technologies to assist in care tasks, and (3) what do health care providers know about caregivers' needs and technology use? Two comprehensive surveys were developed to answer these questions: one for family caregivers (n = 33), and one for health care providers (n = 60). Descriptive and quantitative analyses showed that caregivers' important, unmet needs were in the domains of information, formal services, and emotional support.

Bismuth ferrite (BiFeO) is a promising Bi-based perovskite-type material, which is multiferroic due to the coexistence of anti-ferromagnetism and ferroelectricity. During the preparation of pure BiFeO nanoparticles, however, the phase structures and species of bismuth-iron-based precursor (BFOH) were still unclear, and so related precursors were prepared. X-ray diffraction, Raman, Fourier transform infrared, and X-ray absorption near-edge structure techniques were used to probe the phase structure and species of the precursors.

Genetically encoded Förster Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET)-based biosensors are powerful tools to illuminate spatiotemporal regulation of cell signaling in living cells, but the utility of the red spectrum for biosensing was limited due to a lack of bright and stable red fluorescent proteins. Here, we rationally improve the photophysical characteristics of the coral-derived fluorescent protein TagRFP-T. We show that a new single-residue mutant, super-TagRFP (stagRFP) has nearly twice the molecular brightness of TagRFP-T and negligible photoactivation.

Caveolae, the cave-like structures abundant in endothelial cells (ECs), are important for multiple signaling processes such as production of nitric oxide and caveolae-mediated intracellular trafficking. Using superresolution microscopy, fluorescence resonance energy transfer, and biochemical analysis, we observed that the EphB1 receptor tyrosine kinase constitutively interacts with caveolin-1 (Cav-1), the key structural protein of caveolae. Activation of EphB1 with its ligand Ephrin B1 induced EphB1 phosphorylation and the uncoupling EphB1 from Cav-1 and thereby promoted phosphorylation of Cav-1 by .

We use data from the T-SAGE instrument on board the MICROSCOPE space mission to search for Lorentz violation in matter-gravity couplings as described by the Lorentz violating standard model extension (SME) coefficients (a[over ¯]_{eff})_{μ}^{w}, where (μ=T, X, Y, Z) and (w=e, p, n) for the electron, proton, and neutron. One of the phenomenological consequences of a nonzero value of those coefficients is that test bodies of different composition fall differently in an external gravitational field. This is similar to "standard" tests of the universality of free fall, but with a specific signature that depends on the orbital velocity and rotation of Earth.
