Optimal Extent of Transhiatal Gastrectomy and Lymphadenectomy for the Stomach-Predominant Adenocarcinoma of Esophagogastric Junction: Retrospective Single-Institution Study in China.

The optimal extent of gastrectomy and lymphadenectomy for esophagogastric junction (EGJ) cancer is controversial. Our study aimed to compare the long-term survival of transhiatal proximal gastrectomy with extended periproximal lymphadenectomy (THPG with EPL) and transhiatal total gastrectomy with complete perigastric lymphadenectomy (THTG with CPL) for patients with the stomach-predominant EGJ cancer. Between January 2004, and August 2015, 306 patients with Siewert II tumors were divided into the THTG group ( = 148) and the THPG group ( = 158).

OBJECTIVESymptomatic steno-occlusion of the proximal vertebral artery (VA) or subclavian artery (ScA) heralds a poor prognosis and high risk of stroke recurrence despite medical therapy, including antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs. In some cases, the V2 segment of the cervical VA is patent and perfused via collateral vessels. Electromyographic comparison of the barbell deadlift using constant versus variable resistance in healthy, trained men.

Variable, external resistance is proposed to increasingly augment the muscular stress throughout a dynamic movement. However, it is uncertain how different levels of variable resistance affect the activation in the deadlift. The aim of the study was to compare the electromyographic activity of the gluteus maximus, biceps femoris, semitendinosus, vastus lateralis and erector spinae muscles during the barbell deadlift with free weights (FW) alone, with two (FW-2EB), and four elastic bands (FW-4EB) to deload some of the constant external resistance.

Association of Perforator Stroke After Basilar Artery Stenting With Negative Remodeling.

Background and Purpose- We try to evaluate whether plaque features and perforator stroke after intracranial stenting is associated with the arterial remodeling patterns in patients with severe basilar artery stenosis. Methods- We studied patients with symptomatic intracranial arterial stenosis who underwent high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging from September 2014 to January 2017. Among them, patients with basilar artery stenosis underwent angioplasty and stenting were recruited.

Iron(III)/Copper(II)-Cocatalyzed Cycloaddition/[3,3]-Rearrangement/N-O Bond Cleavage To Prepare Polysubstituted Pyrrolizines from N-Vinyl-α,β-Unsaturated Nitrones and Activated Alkynes.

An efficient one-pot synthesis of polysubstituted pyrrolizines from N-vinyl- α,β-unsaturated nitrones and activated alkynes through iron(III)/copper(II)-cocatalyzed [3 + 2] cycloaddition/[3,3]-rearrangement and sequential N-O bond cleavage was developed. The reaction first underwent [3 + 2] cycloaddition and [3,3]-rearrangement to afford nine-membered N-heterocycles, and then a controlled N-O bond cleavage of nine-membered rings by iron(III)/copper(II) cocatalysts delivered pyrrolizine scaffolds. A kinetic resolution of nine-membered ring compounds was achieved for the first time by using copper(II) acetate combined with a chiral PyBox ligand.

Age-related but not longevity-related genes are found by weighted gene co-expression network analysis in the peripheral blood cells of humans.

Human lifespan is determined by genetic and environmental factors. Potential longevity genes are neither specific nor reproducible, and longevity-related genes are constantly confused with age-related genes. To distinguish specific age- and longevity-related genes, we analyzed a Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) dataset established by the Leiden Longevity Study.

Impact of parental migration on oral health outcomes of left-behind school-aged children in Luchuan, southern China.

Background: With rapid urbanization in China, an increasing number of rural adults have migrated to cities to seek job opportunities, leaving their school-aged children behind. These left-behind children (LBC) without one or both parents usually receive less attention from their caregivers. Whether the parental migration affects the children's oral health is not well understood.

Background: Therapeutic strategies and outcomes vary with stroke subtypes for patients with acute vertebrobasilar occlusion (VBAO). This study aimed to compare characteristics and outcomes of VBAO due to intracranial atherosclerotic disease (ICAD) and embolisms and identify baseline predictors of ICAD.

Methods: Patients with VBAO who received endovascular therapy (EVT) were retrospectively analyzed.

Predictors of Good Outcome After Endovascular Treatment for Patients with Vertebrobasilar Artery Occlusion due to Intracranial Atherosclerotic Stenosis.

Purpose: To investigate the predictors for good outcome of endovascular therapy (EVT) for patients with acute vertebrobasilar artery occlusion (VBAO) due to intracranial atherosclerosis stenosis (ICAS).

Methods: From April 2012 to February 2018, patients with VBAO due to ICAS who received EVT were retrospectively analyzed. ICAS was defined as fixed stenosis of >70%, or a degree of fixed stenosis >50% in addition to either perfusion impairment or evidence to re-occlusion.

Submaximal primary angioplasty for symptomatic intracranial atherosclerosis: peri-procedural complications and long-term outcomes.

Purpose: The aim of our study is to report the peri-procedural complications and long-term stroke recurrent rate of symptomatic intracranial atherosclerosis (ICAS) patients who underwent submaximal primary angioplasty.

Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of consecutive patients in a single center who underwent submaximal primary angioplasty between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2015. The peri-procedural complications and long-term outcomes are reported.

Insulin-like growth factor 2 (IGF2) plays an important role in the development of the foetus and in post-natal growth and development. A SNP within intron 3 of porcine IGF2 disrupts a binding site for the repressor, zinc finger BED-type containing 6 (ZBED6), leading to up-regulation of IGF2 in skeletal muscle and major effects on muscle growth, heart size, and fat deposition. This favourable mutation is common in Western commercial pig populations, but is not present in most indigenous Chinese pig breeds.

Sexual compulsivity and its relationship with condomless sex among unmarried female migrant workers in Shanghai, China: a cross-sectional study.

Background: Individuals with high sexual compulsivity are preoccupied with their sexual desire to such an extent that it interferes with their normal daily life and can inhibit self-control. Previous studies have found a close association between sexual compulsivity and condomless sex among different populations; however, no studies have investigated this among unmarried female migrant workers in China. This study aimed to validate the Sexual Compulsivity Scale (SCS) for appropriate use and examine the association between sexual compulsivity and condomless sex in this target population.

Nitrogen self-doped g-CN nanosheets with tunable band structures for enhanced photocatalytic tetracycline degradation.

Metal-free g-CN is always limited by low surface area, rapid charge recombination and limited visible light absorption. In this study, novel porous nitrogen self-doped g-CN nanosheets were prepared by a combination of N self-doping and thermal exfoliation process. Compared to the bulk g-CN, N self-doped g-CN nanosheets possessed a high specific surface area of 74.

Association Between Cerebral Hypoperfusion and Cognitive Impairment in Patients With Chronic Vertebra-Basilar Stenosis.

This study aimed to investigate the association between cognitive impairment and cerebral haemodynamic changes in patients with chronic vertebra-basilar (VB) stenosis. Patients with severe posterior circulation VB stenosis and infarction or a history of infarction for more than 2 weeks from January 2014 to January 2015 were enrolled ( = 96). They were divided into three groups, namely, the computed tomography perfusion (CTP) normal group, the CTP compensated group, and the CTP decompensated group.

Stenting for symptomatic intracranial arterial stenosis in China: 1-year outcome of a multicentre registry study.

Background And Purpose: A multicentre prospective registry study of individually tailored stenting for a patient with symptomatic intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS) combined with poor collaterals in China showed that the short-term safety and efficacy of stenting was acceptable. However, it remained uncertain whether the low event rate could be of a long term. We reported the 1-year outcome of this registry study to evaluate the long-term efficacy of individually tailored stenting for patients with severe symptomatic ICAS combined with poor collaterals.

Here, we explored the possible beneficial effects of tyrosol, a derivative of phenethyl alcohol and natural antioxidant, playing an anti-inflammatory role in astrocyte culture and in vitro oxygen glucose deprivation (OGD) model.

Serum Human Epididymis Secretory Protein 4 (HE4) is a Potential Prognostic Biomarker in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer.

Background: Human epididymis secretory protein 4 (HE4) is a secreted glycosylated protein belonging to the WFDC family, which is an ideal biomarker in ovarian cancer. However, the role of HE4 in lung cancer is still unclear. The study aimed to evaluate serum levels of HE4 as a prognostic biomarker in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Assessment of adherence behaviors for the self-reporting of occupational exposure to blood and body fluids among registered nurses: A cross-sectional study.

Background: In China, register nurses (RNs) have a high risk of occupational exposure to blood/body fluids. The adherence behavior related to self-reporting of occupational exposure needs to be evaluated to protect RNs from healthcare-related infections.

Objectives: To assess adherence behaviors for self-reporting of occupational exposure to blood and body fluids among RNs and identify factors affecting self-reporting in Hunan Province, China for developing upgraded strategies.

Association of Cardioembolism and Intracranial Arterial Stenosis with Outcomes of Mechanical Thrombectomy in Acute Ischemic Stroke.

Objective: To estimate the association of different etiologies of cardioembolism (CE), intracranial arterial stenosis (ICAS), or the combination of these conditions with outcomes of mechanical thrombectomy in acute ischemic stroke.

Methods: Data from the intervention group of the Endovascular therapy for Acute ischemic Stroke Trial (EAST) were analyzed. In 140 patients, the presence of CE, ICAS, neither CE nor ICAS, or both conditions was assessed.
