Background: The human body is a complex and interconnected system where trillions of microorganisms, collectively known as the gut microbiota, coexist with these cells. Besides maintaining digestive health, this relationship also impacts well-being, including immune function, metabolism, and mental health. As frontline healthcare providers, pharmacists are pivotal in promoting the benefits of probiotics for immune support.

Background: Kidney function assessment is crucial in critical illness patients and is required before administering renally excreted medication, especially antibiotics and antiepileptics. Conventional clinical practice often focuses on renal impairment with low creatinine clearance (CrCl) and overlooks the augmented renal clearance (ARC), which is defined by (CrCl) more than 130 ml/min. This typical demonstration neglects individuals who experience hyperfunctioning kidneys.

Objectives: This study attempts the first in a series of investigations into the misuse of alcohol and substances in Qatar. This study explores the emergency presentations of alcohol and substance abuse to all the state funded emergency departments (EDs) in the country which serve around 90% of the population over a 22-month period. Due to legal penalties for alcohol and substance use, and lack of subsidised community-based facilities, ED presentations are a good starting point to explore this burden.

Background: Sepsis recognition in older emergency department (ED) patients is difficult due to atypical symptom presentation. We therefore investigated whether the prognostic and discriminative performance of the five most commonly used disease severity scores were appropriate for risk stratification of older ED sepsis patients (≥70 years) compared to a younger control group (<70 years).

Methods: This was an observational multi-centre study using an existing database in which ED patients who were hospitalized with a suspected infection were prospectively included.

The correlation of schistosomiasis and other variables as a risk factor behind the remarkable high rates of HCV seropositivity in Egypt was studied by examining the sera of 188 subjects (94 apparently healthy villagers and 94 non professional blood donors) for schistosoma antibodies by Falcon assay screening test enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (FAST-ELISA) and for HCV antibodies by the application of screening (ELISA) and confirmatory (RIBA) techniques. The results showed that the overall prevalence of HCV antibodies was 29.8% by ELISA reduced to 21.

The adrenergic innervation of the urinary bladder of normal female and pregnant rats has been studied using a fluorescence histochemical method. The bladder is richly innervated by adrenergic nerve fibres as is evidenced by the presence of numerous adrenergic nerves in the adventitia, musculosa and submucosa. However, adrenergic nerve cells could not be observed.
