Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP-4i), or gliptins, are a widely used glucose-lowering agents. A growing amount of evidence pointed to a possible role of DPP-4i in the induction of bullous pemphigoid (BP), which is an auto-immune skin blistering disease that mainly affects the elderly. In this article we discuss a case of DPP-4i associated BP and we provide an updated review of the current knowledge regarding this emerging entity.

In addition, this empirical work tried to examine the COVID-19 pandemic's influence on both cryptocurrency performances. This work developed a new method that discloses herding biases using persistence and efficiency metrics.

Cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) can cause a systemic inflammatory response (SIRS) making difficult the interpretation of inflammatory markers. Procalcitonin (PCT) is a marker of inflammation that appears to be a good early marker of infection after cardiac surgery. To study the kinetics of PCT after cardiac surgery with CPB and to determine its diagnostic and prognostic value.

Unlabelled: Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are at increased risk of mortality compared with the general population. Evidence suggests that this increased mortality can largely be attributed to increased cardiovascular (CV) death. In a prospective study, 34 patients with RA were compared with age- and sex-matched controls.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia after cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB).The value of N-terminal (Nt)-pro brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) in predicting AF complicating cardiac surgery is not well studied. Our objective is to determine its predictive value in the occurrence of AF after cardiac surgery with CPB.

Article Synopsis
  • Small-bowel videocapsule endoscopy (VCE) is more effective than traditional imaging methods in identifying asymptomatic lesions in the proximal small bowel of Crohn's disease patients, particularly when the disease affects the terminal ileum.
  • A study involving 20 patients found significant proximal lesions in 9 individuals through VCE, while conventional techniques missed most of these findings.
  • VCE not only improved detection rates but also influenced treatment decisions, leading to the prescription of azathioprine for patients with severe small bowel lesions.
