Emerging multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains are the main challenges to the progression of new drug discovery. To diminish infectious disease-causing pathogens, new antibiotics are required while the drying pipeline of potent antibiotics is adding to the severity. Plant secondary metabolites or phytochemicals including alkaloids, phenols, flavonoids, and terpenes have successfully demonstrated their inhibitory potential against the drug-resistant pathogens.

Background: The prevalence of caesarean sections (C-sections) has remarkably increased in the past few decades worldwide, especially in the lower and middle-income countries (LMICs). To our best knowledge, no studies focused on and compared the C-section scenarios of Bangladesh, Nepal, and Pakistan based on the latest demographic and health survey (DHS) data.

Objectives: To assess the trends and factors associated with C-sections in the three South Asian countries.

Background Although caregiving is considered a normal phenomenon for parents, delivering care to a child with neurodevelopmental disabilities can be taxing and disastrously impact parents' quality of life (QoL). This study explored the relationship between QoL, coping strategies, and psychosocial support status of caregivers of children with neurodevelopmental disabilities. Methodology This cross-sectional study included 906 caregivers of children having neurodevelopmental disabilities utilizing the World Health Organization Quality of Life Brief and Perceived Stress Scale.

Because of its low-lying location, urbanization, and inadequate infrastructure, Jakarta (Indonesia) has experienced an increase in annual flooding events, rising from an average of five significant floods per year in the 1990s to over 20 annually (2010-2020). With climate change exacerbating extreme weather events, Jakarta encounters escalating risks of flooding. Although the recurrent flooding is exacerbated by non-point source (NPS) of pollution such as urban runoff and agricultural discharge that contribute to 40% of total pollutants leading to flood-related issues in Jakarta, none has investigated this research gap.

Continuous blood pressure (BP) provides essential information for monitoring one's health condition. However, BP is currently monitored using uncomfortable cuff-based devices, which does not support continuous BP monitoring. This paper aims to introduce a blood pressure monitoring algorithm based on only photoplethysmography (PPG) signals using the deep neural network (DNN).

Groundwater, the world's most abundant source of freshwater, is rapidly depleting in many regions due to a variety of factors. Accurate forecasting of groundwater level (GWL) is essential for effective management of this vital resource, but it remains a complex and challenging task. In recent years, there has been a notable increase in the use of machine learning (ML) techniques to model GWL, with many studies reporting exceptional results.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the link between hamstring tightness and knee osteoarthritis (KOA), noting that tight hamstrings can aggravate knee issues by increasing strain and limiting motion.
  • The research compares the effects of two treatment methods—instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF)—on hamstring flexibility in KOA patients.
  • Results indicated that while both treatments improved flexibility, pain, and overall health status, IASTM was significantly more effective than PNF after a 6-week treatment period.

Antibiotic-resistant bacteria are becoming increasingly common, leading to a global health crisis. The effects of abusing antibiotics not only increase pathogenic resistance but also cause various diseases and syndromes. Gut microbiota contains many beneficial roles for health, while antibiotics kill both pathogens and gut microbiota which is considered one of the major side effects of antibiotics.

Toxic element accumulation in the surrounding soils of the advanced industry- and agriculture-oriented areas may lead to severe environmental degradation and harmful impact on inhabitants. This work examined the concentration of some concerned toxic elements (Cr, Pb, Cd, Cu, As, and Ni) in the representative topsoil from 10 industrially contaminated sites in central Bangladesh (Narayanganj district) using an Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer concerning the probable ecological and human health risks. The mean concentrations (mg/kg) of the elements were found in the order of Ni (58.
