This paper describes the baseline demographics, clinical characteristics, and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) according to clinical phenotype of patients with early psoriatic arthritis (PsA) for the purpose of creating a decision support system for daily clinical practice. Patients with newly diagnosed PsA were included in the Dutch south west Early Psoriatic ARthritis (DEPAR) study. No classification criteria were applied, to ensure collection of real-world data on demographics, medication, clinical characteristics, and PROs.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjectives: We explored the effects of B-cell directed therapy in subjects at risk of developing autoantibodypositive rheumatoid arthritis (RA), who never experienced inflammatory arthritis before, and explored biomarkers predictive of arthritis development.
Methods: Individuals positive for both anti-citrullinated peptide antibodies and rheumatoid factor but without arthritis were included in a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study to receive a single infusion of 1000 mg rituximab or placebo.
Results: Eighty-one individuals received treatment and were followed up for a mean of 29.
A 75-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman had longstanding joint pain, for which they had been treated with NSAIDs. When the symptoms worsened, a thorough diagnostic investigation was conducted that revealed myeloproliferative bone-marrow disorders in both patients. The man, who had polyarticular gout secondary to chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia, was able to maintain control of his joint pain with medical treatment.
