Background And Objectives: Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) guidelines for Radical Cystectomy (RC) were published over ten years ago. Aim of this systematic review is to update ERAS recommendations for patients undergoing RC and to give an expert opinion on the relevance of each single ERAS item.

Methods: A systematic review was performed to identify the impact of each single ERAS item on RC outcomes.

Categorization of patients according to their characteristics may simplify decision-making, but it fails to account for the continuous nature of risk and individual variability. Artificial intelligence has the ability to handle more complex continuous data for more precise, individualized recommendations, but several challenges must be overcome to unlock this potential.

Purpose: The objective of this scoping review was to identify the topics of research and the types of studies published by the French Association of Urologists in Training (AFUF) since it was created, 35 years ago and to perform a bibliometric analysis.

Methods: A scoping review on PubMed, Google scholar, Excerpta Medica database (EMBASE) was conducted from 1989 until the 31st of December 2023. The PRISMA extended guidelines for scoping reviews were followed.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compares the two-year functional and oncological outcomes of Retzius-sparing robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy (rsRALP) vs. standard robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy (sRALP) in patients with localized prostate cancer.
  • Results show that rsRALP significantly improves urinary function and quality of life over time, while sexual function differences were negligible after 12 months.
  • Although rsRALP had some negative surgical margin characteristics, it did not affect biochemical recurrence rates after five years, indicating no significant difference in long-term oncological outcomes between the two methods.

Introduction: Perioperative systemic treatments play a crucial role in the comprehensive management of muscle-invasive bladder cancer. While neoadjuvant platinum-based chemotherapy has a proven efficacy, administering adjuvant chemotherapy can be challenging in patients with multiple comorbidities. Although immunotherapy has shown success in metastatic settings, its effectiveness in both neoadjuvant and adjuvant settings remains under investigation.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study assessed patients with PI-RADS 3 lesions from mpMRI to improve risk assessment for clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa) prior to biopsy.
  • - A total of 790 patients with PI-RADS 3 lesions were analyzed, revealing that 19% had csPCa, with significant associations noted for age and PSA density (PSAd).
  • - Results suggest that if a patient's PSAd is below 0.13 ng/ml/cc, especially below 0.09 ng/ml/cc, prostate biopsies may be safely avoided, reducing unnecessary procedures and the risk of overdiagnosis.

Background And Objective: A notable paradigm shift has emerged in the choice of prostate biopsy approach, with a transition from transrectal biopsy (TRBx) to transperineal biopsy (TPBx) driven by the lower risk of severe urinary tract infections. The impact of this change on detection of clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa) remains a subject of debate. Our aim was to compare the csPCa detection rate of TRBx and TPBx.

Introduction: In the absence of consensus on the optimal approach to renorrhaphy in partial nephrectomy, this systematic review aims to assess the various renorrhaphy techniques and their impact on surgical outcomes.

Evidence Acquisition: A systematic review of the literature was performed in March 2022, using PubMed and Scopus, without time restrictions and research filters for studies investigating renorrhaphy techniques in partial nephrectomy. Studies providing sufficient details on renorrhaphy techniques and their outcomes during minimally invasive partial nephrectomy (PN) were included in this analysis.

Background: For non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) requiring radical surgery, limited data are available comparing robotic-assisted radical cystectomy with intracorporeal urinary diversion (iRARC) to open radical cystectomy (ORC). The objective of this study was to compare the two surgical techniques.

Methods: A multicentric cohort of 593 patients with NMIBC undergoing iRARC or ORC between 2015 and 2020 was prospectively gathered.

Objective: To review the literature about combined urologic and reconstructive management of pressure injuries (PIs) with urethral fistulas.

Data Sources: Authors searched the PubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane databases using the following keywords: "Perineum" or "Perineal" and "Pressure Ulcers" or '' Pressure Injury'' and "Urethral Fistula."

Study Selection: The search yielded a total of 95 articles.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compared the trifecta achievement rates of robot-assisted partial nephrectomy between retroperitoneal (RRPN) and transperitoneal (TRPN) approaches using data from 15 medical centers in France.
  • Results showed that while TRPN had a trifecta achievement rate of 82.8% and RRPN 84.0% after matching, RRPN had shorter operative times and less blood loss.
  • The findings suggest that RRPN is a safe and effective alternative to TRPN, especially beneficial for treating posterior renal tumors.

Background: Suitable selection criteria for focal therapy (FT) are crucial to achieve success in localized prostate cancer (PCa).

Objective: To develop a multivariable model that better delineates eligibility for FT and reduces undertreatment by predicting unfavorable disease at radical prostatectomy (RP).

Design, Setting, And Participants: Data were retrospectively collected from a prospective European multicenter cohort of 767 patients who underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-targeted and systematic biopsies followed by RP in eight referral centers between 2016 and 2021.

Objective: To provide the first clinical validation of the European Association of Urology Robotic Urology Section (ERUS) curriculum for training in robot-assisted radical cystectomy with intracorporeal urinary diversion (iRARC).

Patients And Methods: The ERUS proposed a structured curriculum, divided into 11 steps, to train novice surgeons and help overcome the steep learning curve associated with iRARC. In this study, one trainee completed the curriculum under the mentorship of an expert.

Introduction: Multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been included in prostate cancer (PCa) diagnostic pathway and may improve disease characterization. The aim of this systematic review is to assess the added value of MRI-targeted biopsy (TB) in pre-therapeutic risk assessment models over existing tools based on systematic biopsy (SB) for localized PCa.

Evidence Acquisition: A systematic search was conducted using Pubmed (Medline), Scopus and ScienceDirect databases according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis (PRISMA) statement.

There are still significant disparities between the sexes even if we are now witnessing a feminization of the urological profession. Women's roles in historically male-dominated services still vary widely based on inherent gender biases. Interventions to minimize the gender gap in urology should not constitute a form of positive discrimination in favor of minorities but on the contrary a form of positive action to eliminate the obstacles present that block the acceptance of women or their promotion.

Multiple trials are currently studying the additional effect of immunotherapy on neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in nonmetastatic muscle-invasive bladder cancer. We performed a systematic review of the literature that summarizes all ongoing trials, with their results when available. From an initial 269 trials identified, 17 were included.

Introduction: Male gender has been shown to be a risk factor for COVID-19 infection, and men are more likely to develop severe disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) on the incidence of infection and severity of SARS-CoV-2 in prostate cancer patients.

Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis were performed after searching PubMed, Scopus, and ClinicalTrial.
