Ferroelectric poly(vinylidene fluoride)/semiconductive polythiophene (P3CPenT) blend monolayers were developed at varying blend ratios using the Langmuir-Blodgett technique. The multilayered blend nanosheets show much improved surface roughness that is more applicable for electronics applications than spin-cast films. Because of the precisely controllable bottom-up construction, semiconductive P3CPenT were well dispersed into the ferroelectric PVDF matrix.

A jejunal tumor was found with computed tomography in a 79-year-old man with a history of gastrectomy reconstructed with Billroth II method for gastric ulcers. The tumor with contrast effect extended into the afferent loop and invaded the retroperitoneum in the dorsal side. The tumor occupied the jejunal lumen in endoscopic examination.

A 69-year-old man with multiple liver metastases from sigmoid colon cancer received mFOLFOX6 plus cetuximab(Cmab) chemotherapy. A partial response was observed; hence, we performed an extended left hepatectomy, 3 partial liver resections, and a sigmoidectomy. After 4 courses of CapeOX, a recurrent lesion occurred between S8 and S7 of the liver, and we changed the regimen to FOLFIRI plus bevacizumab(BV).

We search for single-photon events in 53  fb^{-1} of e^{+}e^{-} collision data collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B-Factory. We look for events with a single high-energy photon and a large missing momentum and energy, consistent with production of a spin-1 particle A^{'} through the process e^{+}e^{-}→γA^{'}; A^{'}→invisible. Such particles, referred to as "dark photons," are motivated by theories applying a U(1) gauge symmetry to dark matter.

Patients And Methods: Fifty-eight patients with gastric neoplasias scheduled for gastric ESD were enrolled and randomly assigned to the two groups. The satisfaction scores of the endoscopists and the parameters for the effectiveness and safety of sedation were evaluated by comparisons between the two groups.

A double-decker silsesquioxane based bis(terpyridine) ruthenium(ii) complex (2Tpy/Ru-DDSQ), a member of the polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) class, has been synthesized. Its structure has been characterized using comprehensive techniques such as nuclear magnetic resonance (H NMR) spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and UV-visible spectroscopy. This work not only deals with the synthesis of 2Tpy/Ru-DDSQ but also provides the first comprehensive investigation based on the photoluminescence and electrochemical features of a POSS member.

Global warming impairs grain filling in rice and reduces starch accumulation in the endosperm, leading to chalky-appearing grains, which damages their market value. We found previously that high temperature-induced expression of starch-lytic α-amylases during ripening is crucial for grain chalkiness. Because the rice genome carries at least eight functional α-amylase genes, identification of the α-amylase(s) that contribute most strongly to the production of chalky grains could accelerate efficient breeding.

Route bundling implies compounding multiple routes in a way that anchoring points at intermediate locations minimize a global distance metric to obtain a tree-like structure where the roots of the tree (anchoring points) serve as coordinating locus for the joint transport of information, goods and people. Route bundling is a relevant conceptual construct in a number of path-planning scenarios where the resources and means of transport are scarce/expensive, or where the environments are inherently hard to navigate due to limited space. In this paper we propose a method for searching optimal route bundles based on a self-adaptive class of Differential Evolution using a convex representation.

Background: Invasive ecosystem engineers can facilitate their invasions by modifying the physical environment to improve their own performance, but this positive feedback process has rarely been tested empirically except in sessile organisms. The invasive crayfish Procambarus clarkii is an ecosystem engineer that destroys aquatic macrophytes, which provide a physical refuge for animal prey, and this destruction is likely to enhance vulnerability to predators. Using two series of mesocosm experiments, we tested the hypothesis that the invasive crayfish increases its feeding efficiency on animal prey by reducing submerged macrophytes, thus increasing its individual growth rate in a positive density-dependent manner.

To improve natural killer group 2 member D (NKG2D)-dependent cytotoxicity, the inhibition of cleavage and release of major histocompatibility complex class 1-related chain (MIC) molecules from the tumor surface are required. Valproic acid (VPA), a histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor, is able to induce cell-surface MICA/B on tumor cells. In the present study, the ability of VPA and gemcitabine (GEM) to upregulate MICA/B in pancreatic cancer cells was investigated, resulting in the inhibition of cleavage and release of MIC molecules from the tumor surface.

Introduction: Unintentional catecholamine flush caused by inappropriate release of an intravenous occlusion during use of a syringe pump in the intensive care unit (ICU) can have dangerous consequences in patients receiving critical care. We investigated whether anesthesiology residents understood how to deal with syringe pump occlusion in a simulated ICU setting.

Methods: We set up a mannequin that virtually simulated a sedated patient under mechanical ventilation after cardiac surgery, with epinephrine and dopamine being infused by syringe pumps to maintain blood pressure at 100/50 mm Hg.
