This study performs extended x-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) measurements for the S-K edge in the temperature range of 10 and 300 K in the transmission mode using a photodiode to detect the transmitted x-rays. It provides the first report of temperature variations in the structural parameters of-S. As the temperature increases from 10 to 300 K in the Fourier transform ofkχ(k)the first peak corresponding to the covalent bond of the eight-membered ring becomes slightly low anomalously despite thermal disturbances.

Neuroendocrine carcinoma of the uterine endometrium is extremely rare and found in <1% of all primary endometrial carcinomas. We report a case of neuroendocrine carcinoma of the endometrium detected in a 65-year-old woman and focus our attention on the main imaging features. The low apparent diffusion coefficient value and high maximum standardized uptake value for neuroendocrine cancer serve to distinguish this cancer from endometrial cancer.

Background: IgG4-related kidney disease causes renal impairment of unknown pathogenesis that may progress to kidney failure. Although ectopic germinal centers contribute to the pathogenesis of the head and neck lesions of IgG4-related disease, the presence of tertiary lymphoid tissue (TLT) containing germinal centers in IgG4-RKD has rarely been reported.

Case Presentation: We report a 72-year-old Japanese man who had IgG4-related tubulointerstitial nephritis (TIN) with TLT formation incidentally detected in a resected kidney with mass lesion of IgG4-related ureteritis in the ureteropelvic junction.

The in situ X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) for the structural changes of Ag clusters produced in the cavity of luminescent zeolites by thermal treatment of Ag zeolite-A and Ag zeolite-X has been studied. The following procedures are compared: (i) samples are heated and cooled to room temperature under atmosphere (under air); (ii) samples are heated and cooled to room temperature in a vacuum and then exposed to air. It was confirmed that the Ag clusters were broken when the Ag zeolite was exposed to air for Ag zeolite-X, which complements our previous results for Ag-A.

Alkaptonuria is an inherited metabolic disease caused by a genetic deficiency of homogentisate 1,2-dioxygenase and characterized by dark-brown connective tissue related to the deposition of oxidized homogentisic acid. Pigment deposition is also observed in the cardiovascular system, such as in the coronary arteries, cardiac valves, and aorta. Because aortic stenosis may develop secondary to pigment deposition-related calcification at the aortic valve, aortic valve replacement may be necessary for severe aortic valve disease.

To date, studies on mesenchymal tissue stem cells (MSCs) in the perichondrium have focused on in vitro analysis, and the dynamics of cartilage regeneration from the perichondrium in vivo remain largely unknown. We have attempted to apply cell and tissue engineering methodology for ear reconstruction using cultured chondrocytes. We hypothesized that by inducing angiogenesis with basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), MSCs or cartilage precursor cells would proliferate and differentiate into cartilage in vivo and that the regenerated cartilage would maintain its morphology over an extended period.

The management of wounds with tendon and/or bone exposure is challenging because of the insufficient blood supply to the wound bed. We describe our experience with 19 patients using a perifascial areolar tissue (PAT) graft with topical administration of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) in the treatment of complex wounds with exposed tendons and/or bones in the extremities.
