 To analyze a series of cases of complex fractures of the sacrum with spinopelvic dissociation surgically treated with iliolumbar fixation, and to review the existing medical literature.  For the analysis, the medical records of the cases operated using the Schildhauer et al technique for fixation were retrospectively evaluated, and followed up for at least 12 months. The functional results were assessed using the visual analog scale (VAS) for pain and the Oswestry disability index, version 2.

Optimal timing of laparoscopic cholecystectomy after gallbladder drainage for acute cholecystitis: A multi-institutional retrospective study.

Background: There is no consensus on the optimal timing of laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) after gallbladder drainage for acute cholecystitis (AC). To obtain evidence for a consensus, we investigated surgical outcomes of LC after gallbladder drainage with respect to the time elapsed from gallbladder drainage to surgery in a multi-institutional retrospective study.

Methods: This study enrolled 347 patients who underwent LC after gallbladder drainage for AC at 15 institutions.

The safety and efficacy of dose-escalated radiotherapy with intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT) remain unclear in salvage radiotherapy (SRT) after radical prostatectomy. We examined the impact of these advanced radiotherapy techniques and dose intensification on the toxicity of SRT. This multi-institutional retrospective study included 421 patients who underwent SRT at the median dose of 66 Gy in 2-Gy fractions.

Application of a hemodialysis clearance prediction model using quantitative structure-pharmacokinetic relationship analysis.

Hemodialysis (HD) is a method used to remove biogenic substances or blood components that cause disease and some drugs used by patients to treat their diseases. Therefore, dosing schedule must be planned according to HD clearance (CL ) when medical treatment is provided to patients receiving HD. We aimed to clarify the physical properties (eg, octanol-water partition coefficient and molecular electronegativity) or pharmacokinetic parameters (eg, volume of distribution) of compounds affecting CL and to construct a mathematical model to predict CL .

Impact of knee osteoarthritis on surgical outcomes of lumbar spinal canal stenosis.

Objective: Lumbar spinal canal stenosis (LSS) and knee osteoarthritis (KOA), both of which are age-related degenerative diseases, are independently correlated with increased pain and dysfunction of the lower extremities. However, there have been few studies that investigated whether LSS patients with KOA exhibit poor clinical recovery following lumbar spinal surgery. The aim of this study was to elucidate the surgical outcomes of lumbar spinal surgery for LSS patients with KOA using multiple health-related quality of life (HRQOL) parameters.

In the study presented here, we examined the sirtuins in the white koji fungus, Aspergillus luchuensis mut. kawachii (Aspergillus kawachii), to examine their role in the regulation of amylolytic enzymes and citric acid production during solid-state culture (koji).

We previously reported that sperm binding to cultured monolayers of bovine uterine epithelial cells induces an acute inflammatory response involving the Toll-like receptor (TLR2) signaling pathway. This response serves to clear the uterus of sperm and thereby prepares the endometrium for implantation. The endometrium is lined by surface epithelial cells; however, epithelial cells also line uterine glands.

Japanese Patients Treated in the IMPERIAL Randomized Trial Comparing Eluvia and Zilver PTX Stents.

Purpose: The purpose of the study is to report 12-month efficacy and safety results from the subgroup of Japanese patients in the prospective IMPERIAL 2:1 randomized controlled trial (RCT).

Methods: The global IMPERIAL RCT was designed to compare performance of the Eluvia Drug-Eluting Vascular Stent System (Boston Scientific, Marlborough, MA, USA) with the Zilver PTX Drug-Eluting Peripheral Stent (Cook Medical, Bloomington, IN, USA) for treatment of femoropopliteal artery lesions. Patients with symptomatic (Rutherford category 2-4) disease were included.

Analysis of tretoquinol and its metabolites in human urine by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.

Tretoquinol (trimetoquinol), a β2-agonist, has been explicitly listed on the World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List 2019 since January 2019; however, it has been distributed as an antiasthmatic on the medical market. This study aimed to develop a liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometric method for the quantification of tretoquinol (free form plus glucuronide) in human urine for doping control purposes. An excretion study (n = 6) of tretoquinol hydrochloride hydrate (6 mg) was performed, and urine samples were collected prior to oral administration and during the first 48 h, along with spot urine samples at 7 and 14 days after administration.

Method of Determining Pyrrole-Imidazole Polyamide in Rat Plasma Using Ultra-Fast Liquid Chromatography-Ultraviolet Spectrometry.

To improve the efficiency of drug-discovery research on pyrrole-imidazole polyamides (PIs), a more rapid method for quantitative and qualitative measurement of PI in rat plasma samples was developed here using ultra-fast liquid chromatography-ultraviolet spectrometry (UFLC-UV) in order to shorten the measurement time. A measurement method of PIs by HPLC developed until now takes 45 min for one sample measurement. This method was inefficient to investigate extraction conditions from biological samples and measurement of animal experimental samples.
