Therapeutic Suggestions During General Anesthesia Reduce Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting in High-Risk Patients - A Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial.

Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) are one of the most adverse events after general anesthesia, a distressing experience, and pose a risk to the patient. Despite advances in drug prophylaxis and PONV treatment, the incidence remains high and additional non-pharmacological treatments are needed. In this analysis of a recently published double-blind multicenter randomized controlled trial on the efficacy of intraoperative therapeutic suggestions on postoperative opioid dosage, we analyzed the effects of intraoperative therapeutic suggestions on PONV.

Effect of therapeutic suggestions during general anaesthesia on postoperative pain and opioid use: multicentre randomised controlled trial.

Objective: To investigate the effect of therapeutic suggestions played to patients through earphones during surgery on postoperative pain and opioid use.

Design: Blinded randomised controlled study.

This study compared functional and radiological outcomes after treatment of extension-type distal radius fractures with conventional titanium nonlocking T-plates or titanium 1.5-mm locking plates. A total of 60 patients were included and followed for 4 to 7 years after receiving nonlocking T-plates (group A; n=30) or locking plates (group B; n=30) with and without dorsal bone grafting.

Pitfalls in sonography of the Gamekeeper's thumb.

The gamekeeper's or skier's thumb is a very common injury. Nondisplaced tears of the ulnar collateral ligament of the thumb (UCL) may be treated conservatively. For that reason an accurate diagnosis is mandatory for choosing the correct therapy.

Ulnar collateral ligament: differentiation of displaced and nondisplaced tears with US and MR imaging.

Purpose: To compare the usefulness of ultrasound (US) and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging in the differentiation of displaced and nondisplaced tears of the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL).

Materials And Methods: Seventeen patients (eight female and nine male, aged 14-70 years) with clinically diagnosed tears underwent examination with US and MR imaging. T1-weighted, spin-echo (SE) and T2-weighted, turbo SE sequences were used.

Sonography of the injured ulnar collateral ligament of the thumb.

We used high-resolution ultrasonography to image the ulnar collateral ligament in 39 patients who had sustained recent injuries of the metacarpophalangeal joint of the thumb. All the patients were subsequently operated on and the lesions of the ligament were recorded. In 36 patients the preoperative ultrasonographic diagnosis was correct.

Characterization of C3a receptor-proteins on guinea pig platelets and human polymorphonuclear leukocytes.

The expression of specific membrane receptors for C3a was determined on guinea pig C3a-sensitive (gp R+) platelets and human polymorphonuclear leukocytes (hu PMNL). Binding studies with 125I-labeled C3a from gp or hu sources and Scatchard analysis applied to the binding data revealed the existence of two receptor classes on gp R+ platelets; a high-affinity class with about 200 binding sites/cell and Kd = 1.7 x 10(-9) M, and a relatively low-affinity class with Kd = 10(-8) M and about 500 sites/cell.
