Objective: Palpation of brain stiffness is one of techniques that leads to successful neurosurgical procedures. In order to evaluate brain stiffness quantitatively, we studied the potential clinical applicability of a spherical indenting tactile sensor.

Methods: The sensor had a spherical rigid indenter (diameter=5.

The long-term postoperative improvement of quality of life (QOL) and employment were investigated in patients undergoing resection of epileptogenic lesions detected by magnetic resonance (MR) imaging to identify the associated preoperative factors. Thirty of 47 patients who underwent lesionectomy between 1987-2001 replied to questionnaires. Patients with extratemporal resection outnumbered those with temporal lobe resection.

Transient forebrain ischemia and reperfusion induces delayed neuronal death (DND) in the hippocampal Cornu Ammonis 1 (CA1) subfield of stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHRSP). The vulnerability to DND is potentially related to the genetic susceptibility to stroke in this strain. To elucidate the mechanism of DND in SHRSP, however, it is essential to establish a method for quantitative evaluation of DND, which is not available yet.

A 56-year-old man treated with anticoagulants complained of a gradually worsening headache. A left chronic subdural hematoma (CSH) was shown by head computed tomographic (CT) scans and the operation, one burr hole surgery under local anesthesia, itself was performed uneventfully. However, immediately after we began draining the hematoma at the patient's bedside, the patient complained of a sudden headache.

Objective And Importance: We are sometimes involved in the care of patients with neurofibromatosis Type 1 because of the associated disorders of cervicocerebral vessels. However, extracranial vertebral artery aneurysm in neurofibromatosis Type 1 is very rare. We present the first reported case of a rupture of an extracranial vertebral artery aneurysm into the thoracic cavity in a patient with neurofibromatosis Type 1.
