Deep Cervical Artery as a Source of Bleeding in Postoperative Spinal Epidural Hematoma: A Case Report.

The source of bleeding in postoperative spinal epidural hematoma (pSEH) is often unclear. We describe a surgical case of pSEH in which the source of bleeding was thought to be the deep cervical artery (DCA). A 67-year-old man underwent C laminectomy, C unilateral open door laminoplasty, and C partial laminotomy for cervical spondylotic myelopathy.

Successful treatment of leptomeningeal gliomatosis of pilomyxoid astrocytoma after failed frontline chemotherapy.

Introduction: Pilomyxoid astrocytoma (PMA) is a rare variant of pilocytic astrocytoma. Compared with pilocytic astrocytoma, PMA is more aggressive, has a higher rate of local recurrence, and often disseminates to the leptomeninges. Leptomeningeal gliomatosis is another rare but often intractable neoplasm.

The cell survival activity of human glioma cells is largely dependent on autocrine fibroblast growth factor (FGF) signaling. Caspases, a family of cysteine proteases, play an integral part in the execution phase of apoptosis. To better understand the mechanism of resistance to apoptosis in human glioma cells, we investigated the effect of a blockade of endogenous FGF signaling through the expression of the dominant negative type I FGF receptor (DNFGFR) in U251MG cells.

Mesangiolytic glomerulopathy after radiotherapy and chemotherapy of gastric lymphoma.

Mesangiolytic glomerulopathy is an uncommon complication of irradiation and chemotherapy of THP-COP [pirarubicin, cyclophosphamide (CPA), vincristin (VCR), predonisolone (PSL)] and CHOP (CPA, Doxorubicin, VCR, PSL). We report a case of 63-year-old man 7 months status post radiation, and 10 months post chemotherapy for gastric lymphoma. The patient showed proteinuria and mild renal insufficiency.

The proliferation and migration of vascular smooth muscle cells (SMC) are important aspects of atherogenesis. Activated growth factor signaling in injured vessels subsequently promotes a number of intracellular events resulting in the phenotypic modulation of SMC. Here, we investigated the role of beta2-chimaerin, a non-protein kinase C phorbol ester receptor with Rac-GTPase-activating protein activity, in growth factor-stimulated SMC.

[Case of meningioma with extracranial extension through the internal jugular vein].

We report a case of posterior fossa meningioma extending into the cervical jugular vein, which was successfully resected. A 57-year old male with ataxia and mild hypogeusia was admitted to our hospital. MRI demonstrated a well-circumscribed large posterior fossa mass with extracranial extension through the internal jugular vein.
