In order to investigate the nature of the eye tracking impairment in schizophrenia spectrum we measured pursuit gain with a constant velocity target using a quantitative (RMS error in pursuit gain) and, on an exploratory basis, a qualitative (quality of tracking) measure. We utilized a sample consisting of three clinically characterized groups: patients with schizophrenia (SZ), their first degree non-psychotic relatives, subjects with schizotypal personality disorder (SPD), and healthy volunteers (HV). Background: SLC25A12, a susceptibility gene for autism spectrum disorders that is mutated in a neurodevelopmental syndrome, encodes a mitochondrial aspartate-glutamate carrier (aspartate-glutamate carrier isoform 1 [AGC1]). This study examined the influence of various forms of childhood abuse on basal cortisol levels in a sample of adults with Axis II personality disorders. Participants included 63 adults (n = 19 women) who provided basal plasma cortisol samples and completed the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire. An open-label pilot study explored the relationship between severity of depressive symptoms and venlafaxine dose required for clinical efficacy in outpatients with major depressive disorder (MDD). Performance on a dual-task information processing task was investigated in 23 schizotypal personality disorder patients (SPD), 29 patients with other noncluster A personality disorders (OPD) and 8 non-psychiatric healthy controls (NC). All participants were assessed using a computer-based visual continuous performance test (CPT) and an auditory CPT individually, and administered again simultaneously in a dual-task condition. The SPD group showed a greater increase in the number of errors of omission than the OPD group or normal controls on the CPT tasks in the dual-task conditions.

Background: Individuals with schizotypal personality disorder (SPD) share cognitive deficits with schizophrenic patients, suggesting that these deficits represent a core feature of the schizophrenia spectrum.
