Generating a Peptide Library Using the Repeats of Amino Acid Scaffolds Created by Sliding the Framework of a 7-mer Human Chemerin Segment and Discovery of Potent Antibacterial and Antimycobacterial Peptides.

The quest for new approaches for generating novel bioactive designer proteins/peptides has continued with their success in various biomedical applications. Previously, we designed a 14-mer α-helical peptide with antimicrobial and antimycobacterial activities by employing a tandem repeat of the 7-mer, "KVLGRLV" human chemerin segment. Herein, we devised a new method of "sliding framework" with this segment to create amino acid scaffolds of varying sizes and sequences and explored the design of a peptide library with antibacterial and antimycobacterial activities.

A comprehensive search of Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus, Scientific Information Database, and MagIran was performed, yielding 29 observational articles comprising 8842 nurses.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging in the Diagnosis of Female Adnexal Masses: Comparison With Histopathological Examination.

Introduction Adnexal masses present a special diagnostic challenge because it is difficult to differentiate between benign and malignant lesions clinically. This condition is characterized by fibrosis and plaque in the tunica albuginea that results in deformity of the penis and makes sexual intercourse difficult. We report a case of a 52-year-old male who presented with complaints of curvature of the erect penis and erectile dysfunction.

Evaluation of Normal Inferior Vena Cava Diameters in the Indian Adult Population by Computed Tomography.

Background The imaging evaluation of inferior vena cava (IVC) diameters is essential for the estimation of vena caval pathologies and can also detect early hypovolemic shock. There are very few studies on normal IVC diameters on CT scan done in foreign countries, and none done in the Indian population. Aims The goal of this research is to assess the normal IVC diameter in the Indian adult population by performing a CT scan of the abdomen.

Bariatric Surgery in Migraine patients: CGRP Level and Weight Loss.

Background: Obesity makes migraine more prevalent and severe. Serum level of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is associated with the severity of migraine attacks. Although the effect of weight and bariatric surgery has been studied on migraine, the role of CGRP in migraine remission after weight loss surgery needs more investigation.

Tandem Repeat of a Short Human Chemerin-Derived Peptide and Its Nontoxic d-Lysine-Containing Enantiomer Display Broad-Spectrum Antimicrobial and Antitubercular Activities.

To design novel antimicrobial peptides by utilizing the sequence of the human host defense protein, chemerin, a seven-residue amphipathic stretch located in the amino acid region, 109-115, was identified, which possesses the highest density of hydrophobic and positively charged residues. Although this 7-mer peptide was inactive toward microorganisms, its 14-mer tandem repeat (Chem-KVL) was highly active against different bacteria including methicillin-resistant , a multidrug-resistant strain, and slow- and fast-growing mycobacterial species. The selective enantiomeric substitutions of its two l-lysine residues were attempted to confer cell selectivity and proteolytic stability to Chem-KVL.
