Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the elemental composition of the Moon's surface to understand its formation and evolution, utilizing data from multiple lunar missions.
  • Recent in situ measurements from India's Chandrayaan-3 mission reveal that the southern high-latitude regions of the Moon are primarily made up of ferroan anorthosite, indicating a history of crystallization from a lunar magma ocean.
  • The presence of higher magnesium levels compared to calcium suggests that there is mixing with additional mafic materials, while the consistent composition within the surrounding area lends support to remote sensing data accuracy.

In recent times, tear fluid analysis has garnered considerable attention in the field of biomarker-based diagnostics due to its noninvasive sample collection method. Tears encompass a reservoir of biomarkers that assist in diagnosing not only ocular disorders but also a diverse list of systemic diseases. This highlights the necessity for sensitive and dependable screening methods to employ tear fluid as a potential noninvasive diagnostic specimen in clinical environments.

Microplastics (MP) which are tiny plastic particles of sizes range from 1 μm (μm) to 5 mm (mm), have become a growing cause of concern due to their widespread presence in the environment and their potential impacts on ecosystems and human health. Marine organisms have the potential to consume microplastics, which could lead to physical injuries, blockages, or the transfer of harmful substances up the food chain. Humans may indirectly consume microplastics through contaminated seafood and water, although the complete scope of health risks is currently under investigation.

Unlabelled: Raman spectroscopy offers the potential for fingerprinting biological molecules at ultra-low concentration and therefore has potential for the detection of viruses. Here we review various Raman techniques employed for the investigation of viruses. Different Raman techniques are discussed including conventional Raman spectroscopy, surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy, Raman tweezer, tip-enhanced Raman Spectroscopy, and coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering.

Malaria, dengue and leptospirosis are three tropical infectious diseases that present with severe hematological derangement causing significant morbidity and mortality, especially during the seasonal monsoons. During the course of these infectious diseases, circulating red blood cells are imperiled to the direct ill-effects of the infectious pathogen in the body as well as to the pro-inflammatory cytokines generated as a consequence of the infection. RBCs when exposed to such inflammatory and/or pathogenic milieu are susceptible to injuries such as RBC programmed or RBC programmed .

Acute myocardial infarction (MI) is found to be a major causative factor for global mortality and morbidity. This situation demands necessity of developing efficient and rapid diagnostic tools to detect acute MI. Raman spectroscopy is a non-destructive optical diagnostic technique, which has high potential in probing biochemical changes in clinical samples during initiation and progress of diseases.

The present study explores the application of the micro-Raman spectroscopy technique to discriminate normal and cervicitis condition from cervical malignancy by analyzing the Raman signatures of tissues and plasma samples of the same subjects. The Raman peaks from tissue samples at 1026 cm,1298 cm and 1243 cm are attributed to glycogen, fatty acids and collagen and are found to be reliable signatures capable of identifying cervicitis and normal condition from cervical cancer. The Raman signatures from plasma samples belonging to carbohydrates (578 cm), lipids (1059 cm) and nucleic acids (1077 cm,1341 cm and 1357 cm) are quite useful to classify various pathological conditions of cervix at par with tissue based diagnosis.

Prior works on text-based video moment localization focus on temporally grounding the textual query in an untrimmed video. These works assume that the relevant video is already known and attempt to localize the moment on that relevant video only. Different from such works, we relax this assumption and address the task of localizing moments in a corpus of videos for a given sentence query.

Proper occlusion based rendering is very important to achieve realism in all indoor and outdoor Augmented Reality (AR) applications. This paper addresses the problem of fast and accurate dynamic occlusion reasoning by real objects in the scene for large scale outdoor AR applications. Conceptually, proper occlusion reasoning requires an estimate of depth for every point in augmented scene which is technically hard to achieve for outdoor scenarios, especially in the presence of moving objects.

Human saliva can be treated as a pool of biological markers able to reflect on the state of personal health. Recent years have witnessed an increase in the use of optical devices for the analysis of body fluids. Several groups have carried out studies investigating the potential of saliva as a non-invasive and reliable clinical specimen for use in medical diagnostics.

Crystalloid fluids, a subset of intravenous (IV) fluid solutions are commonly used in clinical settings. The influence of these fluids on the functions of blood components are least explored. Raman spectroscopy combined with optical trapping has been widely used to evaluate the impact of external stress agents on red blood cells.

Extracellular tonicity has a significant influence on human red blood cell deformation capability. Advancements in the area of laser physics and optical trapping have opened up a plethora of applications for understanding cell structure and dynamics. Here, Raman Tweezers technique was employed to investigate the impact of extracellular tonicity by exposing human red blood cells to both hypertonic and hypotonic intravenous fluids.

The dermal penetration of bisphenol-A (BPA) from thermal papers into the human skin is a matter of major health concern due to its extensive use in developing countries like India, one of its largest users in the world. Bisphenol A is widely used in the manufacture of many consumer goods like polycarbonate water bottles, baby bottles, food containers, home appliances, thermal papers used in billing and tickets, the inner lining of food cans, BPA can be easily adsorbed into the blood rapidly. The integration of optical tweezers with Raman spectroscopic techniques has realized avenues for interpreting single cell investigations.

The use of normal saline for washing red blood cells and treating critically ill patients is a regular medical practice in hospital settings. An optical tweezer in combination with Raman spectroscopy is an analytical tool employed for the investigation of single cell dynamics, thus providing molecular fingerprint of the cell by optically trapping the cell at a laser focus. In this study, the impact of normal saline on individual human red blood cell was compared with that of blood plasma using Raman tweezers spectroscopy.

Most video summarization approaches have focused on extracting a summary from a single video; we propose an unsupervised framework for summarizing a collection of videos. We observe that each video in the collection may contain some information that other videos do not have, and thus exploring the underlying complementarity could be beneficial in creating a diverse informative summary. We develop a novel diversity-aware sparse optimization method for multi-video summarization by exploring the complementarity within the videos.
