Mechanisms of the Procognitive Effects of Xanthotoxin and Umbelliferone on LPS-Induced Amnesia in Mice.

Neuroinflammation plays an essential role in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease. Although coumarins have been shown to improve cognitive function in animal models and exert anti-inflammatory effects in cell cultures, the exact mechanism of their neuroprotective effects has not yet been fully elucidated. The present study aimed to investigate the neuroprotective effects of xanthotoxin (furanocoumarin) and umbelliferone (simple coumarin) in lipopolysaccharide-induced cognitive dysfunction in mice.
