Background: In a randomized phase II/III trial (JCOG1008), weekly cisplatin (40 mg/m) was non-inferior to 3-weekly cisplatin (100 mg/m) for postoperative high-risk head and neck cancer. We investigated how acute kidney injury (AKI), a major dose-limiting toxicity effect of cisplatin, affects overall survival (OS).
Methods: We analyzed 251 patients from JCOG1008 receiving chemoradiotherapy.
Objective: Although adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are associated with poor health in adulthood, positive childhood experiences (PCEs) can reduce the risk of negative health outcomes. This study aimed to investigate whether PCEs in the community (CPCEs, ie, trusted adults other than parents, supportive friends, belongingness to school, or community traditions) would have an independent effect on better health outcomes and moderate the association between ACEs and adult illnesses.
Design: Cross-sectional survey.
Objectives: Acute kidney injury (AKI) represents a major toxicity associated with cisplatin. We developed a risk prediction model for cisplatin-induced AKI in patients with postoperative high-risk head and neck cancer who received chemoradiotherapy during a randomized phase II/III trial, JCOG1008.
Materials And Methods: Two hundred and fifty-one patients received radiotherapy with weekly cisplatin at 40 mg/m (weekly arm) or 3-weekly cisplatin at 100 mg/m (3-weekly arm).
Phosphorylated H2AX, known as γH2AX, forms in response to genotoxic insults in somatic cells. Despite the high abundance of H2AX in zygotes, the level of irradiation-induced γH2AX is low at this stage. Another H2A variant, TH2A, is present at a high level in zygotes and can also be phosphorylated at its carboxyl end.

The purpose of this study is to describe the clinical characteristics of an outbreak of involving 15 patients and four healthcare workers (HCWs), as well as the molecular characteristics of the causative isolates. The course and response to the outbreak were reviewed, and information on the characteristics of the patients was extracted retrospectively from the medical records.

Because of its rarity, its diagnosis is challenging and is usually made by excluding other diagnoses. Immunohistochemical analysis is a reliable technique that contributes to a correct diagnosis, but overestimating the expression of neuroendocrine (NE) markers may result in an incorrect diagnosis.

We conducted a retrospective observational study to assess renal function and prognosis in patients with radioiodine-refractory differentiated thyroid cancer (RR-DTC) receiving lenvatinib. Overall, 70 patients with RR-DTC treated with lenvatinib were enrolled.

Background: Sleeve resection with end-to-end anastomosis (Procedure A) and window resection with a tracheocutaneous fistula (Procedure B) are the major surgical procedures for patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) exhibiting transluminal tracheal invasion. For each procedure, the indications, postoperative course, and treatment results were examined retrospectively.
Methods: Of 1,456 patients with PTC (maximum tumor diameter >1 cm) who received initial treatment between 1993 and 2013, we reviewed 51 patients.
Triple combination therapy with a renin-angiotensin system modulator, a β-blocker, and a mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist is currently recommended for patients with heart failure (HF) with reduced ejection fraction. However, there is limited evidence on the extent to which triple combination therapy is currently prescribed to patients at the time of discharge from hospital in Japan. Japanese patients hospitalized for HF (n=3,582) were evaluated in subgroups defined by left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) using anonymized claims and electronic health record data.

Treatment by transportal scleroembolization using ethanolamine oleate and coils were successful. Pretreatment hepatofugal flow subsequently changed to hepatopetal flow and the symptoms of portal hypertension improved.

Subtotal or total glossectomy for advanced tongue cancer has an adverse impact on swallowing. The purpose of this retrospective study was to analyse postoperative swallowing outcomes and to determine the ideal reconstruction method in these patients. The clinical and swallowing data of patients with tongue cancer who underwent subtotal glossectomy at the study institution between 2005 and 2019 were reviewed retrospectively.

The present study investigated the impact of cytotoxic chemotherapy on survival outcomes compared with observation without chemotherapy.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of the patients diagnosed with recurrent or metastatic HNACC.
Introduction: Concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) is a standard treatment for locally advanced head and neck cancer (LAHNC) in the definitive setting. The Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) is a screening tool to predict the risk of morbidity and mortality in the older adult. Nutritional management is key during CCRT but the association between prognosis and initial nutritional status in older adults with LAHNC undergoing CCRT remains unknown.

Methods: Patients with documented LDL-C test results were extracted from the Medical Data Vision claims database between July 2018 and June 2021 and divided into three groups according to JAS GL2017: primary prevention high risk (Group I, LDL-C goal <120 mg/dL), secondary prevention (Group II, LDL-C goal <100 mg/dL), and secondary prevention high risk (Group III, LDL-C goal <70 mg/dL).
Results: The mean LDL-C value was 108.
Small teleosts have recently been established as models of human diseases. However, measuring heart rate by electrocardiography is highly invasive for small fish and not widely used. The physiological nature and function of vertebrate autonomic nervous system (ANS) modulation of the heart has traditionally been investigated in larvae, transparent but with an immature ANS, or in anesthetized adults, whose ANS activity may possibly be disturbed under anesthesia.

Cervical tracheostomy (CT) is the first choice of tracheostomy, whereas anterior mediastinal tracheostomy (AMT) is sometimes required due to tumor extension or insufficient blood supply to the tracheal tip. However, the differences in the outcomes between CT and AMT after PLTE remain unclear.

In this study, radiation responses in the kidney, the main hematopoietic organ in teleosts, were investigated in Japanese medaka (), which has been a model animal and a large body of knowledge has been accumulated in radiation biology.
Methods: Kidney, the main hematopoietic tissue of adult medaka fish, was locally irradiated using proton and carbon ion beams irradiation system of Takasaki Ion Accelerator for Advanced Radiation Application (TIARA), QST, and the effects on peripheral blood cells and histology of the kidney were investigated.
