Chloraminated drinking water systems commonly use free chlorine conversions (FCCs) to prevent or control nitrification, but unintended water quality changes may occur, including increased disinfection by-product and metal concentrations. This study evaluated water quality in a chloraminated drinking water system and residential locations before, during, and after their annual, planned FCC. Water quality alternated between relatively consistent and variable periods when switching disinfectants.

Photocatalyst systems combining donor polymers with acceptor molecules have shown the highest evolution rates for sacrificial hydrogen production from water for organic systems to date. Here, new donor molecules have been designed and synthesised taking inspiration from the structure-performance relationships which have been established in the development of non-fullerene acceptors. While a conventional bulk heterojunction (BHJ) pairing consists of a donor polymer and acceptor small molecule, here we have successfully reversed this approach by using new p-type small molecules in combination with a n-type conjugated polymer to produce non-conventional BHJ (ncBHJ) nanoparticles.

The direct transformation of 1,3-dienes into valuable 2,5-diarylfurans using transition-metal-free conditions is presented. By employing a simple oxidation─dehydration sequence on readily accessible 1,3-dienes, important 2,5-diarylfuran building blocks frequently used in medicinal and material chemistry are prepared. Four chloraminated drinking water distribution systems (CDWDSs) required to maintain numeric versus "detectable" residuals were spatially and temporally sampled for water quality and associated trihalomethane (THM) and haloacetic acid (HAA) formation. Monochloramine decreased from entry point (EP) to maximum residence time (MRT) samples while THMs and HAAs initially increased and then stabilized or slightly decreased. Subsequently, EP and MRT samples were used in laboratory-held studies to further evaluate disinfectant residual stability, chloramine speciation, and nitrification occurrence.

We report data from nine young, healthy participants (5 women; 26 ± 4 yr) acquired during a 15-s bout of sudden-onset lower body negative pressure (LBNP; -80 mmHg).
