Coherent transformation is considered to be an effective approach to refine the microstructure and enhance toughness of structural steels. Push-pull systems comprising of triphenylamine-tetracyanobutadiene (TPA-TCBD), a high-energy charge-transfer species, are linked to a near-IR sensitizer, azaBODIPY, for promoting excited-state CS. These systems revealed panchromatic absorption owing to intramolecular CT and near-IR absorbing azaBODIPY. Using electrochemical and computational studies, energy levels were established to visualize excited state events.

In this study, we address the challenge of obtaining high strength at ambient and elevated temperatures in fire-resistant Ti-Mo-V steel with ferrite microstructures through thermo-mechanical controlled processing (TMCP). Thermally stable interphase precipitation of (Ti, Mo, V)C was an important criterion for retaining strength at elevated temperatures. Electron microscopy indicated that interphase precipitation occurred during continuous cooling after controlled rolling, where the volume fraction of interphase precipitation was controlled by the laminar cooling temperature.

LpxC is a deacetylase that catalyzes the first committed step of lipid A biosynthesis in LpxC competes for a common precursor, -3-hydroxymyristoyl-UDP-GlcNAc, with FabZ, whose dehydratase activity catalyzes the first committed step of phospholipid biosynthesis. To maintain the optimum flow of the common precursor to these two competing pathways, the LpxC level is controlled by FtsH/YciM-mediated proteolysis. We report the first observation of an efficient, native membrane conjugation mechanism via positively charged, linear oligo-amines. Clustering of membrane fragments relies on electrostatic interactions between the net negative charge of the membranes and the positively charged, water-soluble mediators. This conjugation principle is demonstrated with two different bacterial membranes in which are embedded either the intrinsic membrane protein (MP) bacteriorhodopsin (bR) or the more recently identified xanthorhodopsin (XR).
