Context: Seventy-five percent of incarcerated women are of reproductive age, most of whom are at-risk for unintended pregnancy. Women who are incarcerated come disproportionately from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds and often lack access to desired reproductive health care. Article Synopsis
  • Insulin signaling in the brain influences both food intake and cognitive functions like memory and learning, closely interacting with protein kinase C (PKC) pathways.
  • Intranasal insulin improves memory and reduces neurodegeneration by promoting the splicing of the PKCδII variant, which encourages cell survival and proliferation.
  • This study reveals that insulin enhances PKCδII expression through the PI3K pathway, leading to cognitive benefits in mice and identifying insulin as a regulator of a key signaling kinase involved in neuronal health.
