Therapists' Experiences With the Effectiveness and Feasibility of Videoconference-Based Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.

Research on the effectiveness and applicability of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) videoconference is sparse. Considering the emerging use of internet-based psychotherapy during the COVID-19 pandemic, information on videoconference-based EMDR (eEMDR) would be beneficial for many therapists. In this study, 23 therapists from the EMDR-Institute in Germany provided information about their experiences with eEMDR in a questionnaire-based survey.

Population Connectivity and Traces of Mitochondrial Introgression in New Zealand Black-Billed Gulls ().

Black-billed gulls () are endemic to New Zealand and are suspected to be undergoing substantial population declines. They primarily breed on open gravel beds in braided rivers of the South Island-a habitat that is diminishing and becoming increasingly modified. Although management of this species is increasing, little has been published on their movements and demographics.

Stepwise evaluation of syncope: a prospective population-based controlled study.

Background: Evaluation of syncope remains often unstructured. The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of a standardized protocol designed to improve the diagnosis of syncope.

Methods: Consecutive patients with syncope presenting to the emergency departments of two primary and tertiary care hospitals over a period of 18 months underwent a two-phase evaluation including: 1) noninvasive assessment (phase I); and 2) specialized tests (phase II), if syncope remained unexplained after phase I.

Predictive models of syncope causes in an outpatient clinic.

Unlabelled: The investigation of unexplained syncope remains a challenging clinical problem. In the present study we sought to evaluate the diagnostic value of a standardized work-up focusing on non invasive tests in patients with unexplained syncope referred to a syncope clinic, and whether certain combinations of clinical parameters are characteristic of rhythmic and reflex causes of syncope.

Methods And Results: 317 consecutive patients underwent a standardized work-up including a 12-lead ECG, physical examination, detailed history with screening for syncope-related symptoms using a structured questionnaire followed by carotid sinus massage (CSM), and head-up tilt test.

[Sudden cardiac death: epidemiology and modern therapy].

Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD) has become an important public health challenge in the Western World. In Switzerland near 10,000 people suffer each year from SCD. The survival from SCD to hospital discharge is discouraging (near 5%).

[Treatment of osteoporosis (with the exception of hormone replacement and its derivates].

Calcium and vitamin D supplementation are warranted for the treatment of osteoporosis, when other specific drugs are used. Vitamin D supplementation is necessary when the plasma level of 25-hydroxy-vitamin D is below 30 nmol/l (12 pg/l) in order to avoid any increase of the plasma parathyroid hormone level. Bisphosphonates are the most widely drugs used.

Lateral thermal damage along pulsed laser incisions.

The damage adjacent to incisions created in dorsal mouse skin by overlapping Er3+ and CO2 laser pulses of a duration of 250 microseconds is investigated histologically. It is compared to injuries induced by long-term heating. We demonstrate how the lateral thermal damage near the laser cuts can be explained by heat conduction.
