Background: Breast Cancer (BC) is the most common type of cancer in women around the world and 70% of cases are hormone-receptor positive (HR+). In 40% of cases, a key mechanism of endocrine resistance to the standard first line is a mutation of the ligand-binding domain (LBD) of Estrogen Receptor 1 (ESR1) encoding estrogen receptor α (ER). Most common ESR1 mutations that occur at positions 537 and 538 have been associated with poor clinical outcomes.

Essential oils (EO) are known for their antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and can be used as an alternative to reduce the reliance on antimicrobials in dairy cattle. While many studies have explored the beneficial properties of EO in vitro, their effects on milk quality and milk microbiota, when applied directly to the udder skin, remain relatively unknown. This study aimed to investigate the impact of Thymus capitatus essential oil (TCEO), known for its high antibacterial and antioxidant properties, on milk microbiota using 16S rRNA sequencing, the lipidomic profile via liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry, udder skin microbiota, and inflammatory biomarkers of dairy cows at the end of lactation.

Some studies suggest that the respiratory microbiome of COVID-19 patients differs from that of healthy individuals, infected patients may have reduced diversity and increased levels of opportunistic bacteria, however, the role of the microbiome in fatal SARS-CoV-2 infection remains poorly understood. Our study aimed to determine whether there are differences in the respiratory microbiome between patients who recovered from COVID-19 and those who died, by characterizing the bacterial communities of both groups. A total of 24 patients who recovered from COVID-19 and 24 who died were included in the study, patient data were analyzed for signs, symptoms and clinical variables.

At a fundamental level, the interactions between protons and protons, protons and neutrons, and neutrons and neutrons are not identical. Such isospin nonconserving interactions emerge when comparing the excitation energy of analog states in T=1 triplet nuclei. Here, we extend such an analysis to the A=78, T=1 triplet system-the heaviest system for which such complete data exists-and find strong disagreement with contemporary theory.

This Letter presents the first measurement of event-by-event fluctuations of the net number (difference between the particle and antiparticle multiplicities) of multistrange hadrons Ξ^{-} and Ξ[over ¯]^{+} and its correlation with the net-kaon number using the data collected by the ALICE Collaboration in pp, p-Pb, and Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02  TeV. The statistical hadronization model with a correlation over three units of rapidity between hadrons having the same and opposite strangeness content successfully describes the results.

The phenomenon of ionic liquid (IL) nanoconfinement within a copolymer/IL membrane reportedly enhances membrane selectivity, solubility, and transport in gas separations. Also, the copolymer/IL membrane morphology has been found to affect IL stability at high transmembrane pressures. In this work, a combined mesoscopic dynamics simulation and hybrid grand canonical Monte Carlo/molecular dynamics (GCMC-MD) simulations were carried out to investigate the morphologies, as well as CO/CH gas diffusivities, solubilities, and selectivities of polystyrene--poly(ethylene oxide) (PS--PEO)/1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium thiocyanate ([EMIM][SCN]) and PS--PEO/1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([EMIM][TfN]) membranes.

Hypothalamic GHRH.

Rev Endocr Metab Disord

February 2025

Despite initial discovery in pancreatic tumors, GHRH is a 44-amino acid peptide primarily expressed in the hypothalamus. Recent RNA sequencing clarifies GHRH expression: predominantly hypothalamic in humans, with some basal ganglia presence, while extending to additional central nervous system (CNS) regions in other species. GHRH binds to its G-protein coupled receptor (GHRHR) in the arcuate (ARC), ventromedial (VMH), and periventricular (PeN) nuclei of the hypothalamus to exert its effects.

N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) and trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) are the two solvents/reagents most widely used in solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS). While DMF is already regulated in Europe, TFA - a member of the polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) family - is expected to face similar restrictions soon. These compounds break down slowly and pose risks to human health and the environment.

Immersing the brain in a solution containing formaldehyde is a commonly used method for preserving the structure of human brain tissue in brain banking. However, there are questions about the quality of preservation using this method, as formaldehyde takes a relatively long period of time to penetrate a large organ such as the human brain. As a result, there is a critical need to determine whether immersion fixation is an adequate initial preservation method.
