Introduction: Little is known about how frequently family medicine (FM) clerkship directors remediate faculty with student mistreatment concerns and their comfort level in performing the remediations. In this exploratory study, we investigated factors associated with the number of faculty remediated for student mistreatment concerns by FM clerkship directors and the comfort level of FM clerkship directors in remediating these faculty.

Methods: Data were collected as part of the 2022 Council of Academic Family Medicine Educational Research Alliance (CERA) survey of FM clerkship directors.

Introduction: High-quality, experiential learning in outpatient settings is indispensable for medical student education; however these settings are difficult to recruit and retain. The majority of primary care physicians are employed by organizations and are under pressure to increase their relative value unit (RVU) production. Although the common perception that teaching medical students decreases productivity is unproven, it is likely a barrier for primary care physicians pursuing clinical teaching.

Objective: The Patient Centered Observation Form (PCOF) helps trainees identify and describe specific communication skills and enhance self-awareness about skill use. We studied the effectiveness and ease of use of the Improving Communication Assessment Program (ICAP), an online module that prepares trainees to use the PCOF.

Methods: Students, residents and medical educators viewed two videos (common and better skill use) of the same interaction and rated each video using the PCOF.
