Context: The global incidence of prediabetes and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has increased substantially in recent years. Among the established, modifiable lifestyle factors associated with favorable prediabetes and T2DM risk, healthy dietary patterns have attracted considerable attention.
Objective: The association between adherence to plant-based dietary pattern indices (PDIs), including the overall PDI (O-PDI), healthy PDI (H-PDI), and unhealthy PDI (U-PDI), and the risk of prediabetes and T2DM was investigated in this study.
In this work, a series of novel 3-amino-4-thieno[3,2-]coumarins were designed and synthesized by a one-pot, catalyst-free, and three-component reaction of 3-acetylcoumarins with amines and elemental sulfur. Readily available starting materials, simple heating conditions, facile installation of a sulfur atom into the molecule using S as a sulfur source, acceptable functional group tolerance, and synthetically useful yields are some highlighted benefits of this process.

This study was aimed to measure the epidemiological status and the burden of depressive disorders in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) countries. The study population included 21 countries in the MENA region, covering a population of about 600 million.

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has been widely employed as a fast, reliable, and inexpensive technique to support decision-making and to envisage mitigatory protocols. Nonetheless, the airborne pathogen droplet CFD modeling encounters limitations due to the oversimplification of involved physics and the intensive computational demand.

However, there is a lack of simplified accurate source models that can represent the airborne release to be utilized in the safe-social distancing measures and ventilation design of buildings. Although computational fluid dynamics (CFD) can provide accurate models of airborne disease transmissions, they are computationally expensive.

The resorption of bone grafts is influenced by the time until implantation, quality of donor bone, and grafting technique. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of both grafting techniques on the time-related resorption of autologous iliac bone graft.

Proteomics has been employed to study Parkinson disease (PD); however, sparse studies reported proteome investigation after cell therapy approaches. In this study, we used liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry and systems biology to identify differentially expressed proteins in a translational mouse model of PD after cell therapy.

Being linked with numerous comorbidities and complications, including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, cancer, chronic inflammation, and osteoarthritis (OA), obesity represents one of the most threatening challenges for modern healthcare. Mouse models are an invaluable tool for investigating the effects of diets and their bioactive components against high fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity and its comorbidities.

Aberrant protein glycosylation is thought to be a contributing factor in this metastatic mechanism, in which metastatic cancer cells can pass through the blood-brain barrier (BBB). The cell membrane is the outermost layer of a cell and in direct contact with the environment and with other cells, making membrane glycans especially important in many biological processes that include mediating cell-cell adhesion, cell signaling, and interactions.

The elucidation of the processes and pathways that mediate this step will provide important clues for a better understanding of breast cancer metastasis. Increasing evidence suggests that aberrant glycosylation patterns greatly contribute to cell invasion and cancer metastasis.

In the first step, the HSAG powder was grafted with in-situ-generated diazonium compounds from 4-aminothiophenol (ATP) in an acidic medium using NaNO for the diazotization process. The surface composition was tuned using different initial quantities of ATP.

An estimated 10-16% of breast cancer patients are suffering from brain metastasis, and the diagnostic cases of breast cancer brain metastasis are increasing. Nevertheless, the mechanisms behind this process are still unclear.

Chlorpheniramine, hydroxyzine, propranolol and tramadol were used as the basic model drugs. However, no enantioseparations were achieved with a BGE containing sole amino acid, but the combined use of an acidic amino acid and a CD showed improved enantioseparations (synergistic effect) compared with the single CD system.

Efficient protein/glycoprotein extraction is a crucial step in the preparation of N-glycans derived from glycoproteins prior to LC-MS analysis. Convenient, efficient and unbiased sample preparation protocols are needed.

The risk factors and mechanisms that contribute to the development of micro- and macrovascular disease in diabetes are not fully explained. In this study, we employed mass spectrometric analysis using tandem LC-MS/MS to generate a proteomic profile of protein abundance and post-translational modifications (PTM) in the aorta and kidney of diabetic rats.

The blood-brain barrier (BBB) is a region of the brain that regulates the entrance of ions, diseases, toxins, and so on. However, in breast cancer metastasis, the BBB fails to prevent the crossing of the cancer cells into the brain.

Because of this unique property of BM-hMSCs, we have explored their use for cell-mediated therapeutic delivery for the advancement of GBM treatment. Extravasation, the process by which blood-borne cells—such as BM-hMSCs—enter the tissue, is a highly complex process but is heavily dependent upon glycosylation for glycan-glycan and glycan-protein adhesion between the cell and endothelium.
