Epidemiological survey of Cryptosporidium spp. in companion and stray dogs in Kerman, Iran.

A cross-sectional survey was conducted to determine the prevalence of Cryptosporidium spp. infection in companion and stray dogs in Kerman, Iran. Faecal samples were randomly collected from 548 dogs (450 companion and 98 stray).

Effect of silymarin on sodium fluoride-induced toxicity and oxidative stress in rat cardiac tissues.

This study aim to evaluate the protective effect of silymarin on sodium fluoride-induced oxidative stress in rat cardiac tissues. Animals were pretreated with silymarin at 20 and 10 mg/kg prior to sodium fluoride consumption (600 ppm through drinking water). Vitamin C at 10 mg/kg was used as standard antioxidant.

Mitigating role of quercetin against sodium fluoride-induced oxidative stress in the rat brain.

Context: Quercetin is a well known aglycone flavonoid that is widely found in different food sources.

Objective: In this study, the in vivo neuroprotective potential of quercetin against sodium fluoride-induced oxidative stress was evaluated.

Materials And Methods: Wistar rats were divided into five treatment groups and then subjected to daily intraperitoneally treatment with quercetin (at 10 and 20 mg/kg body weight), vitamin C (at 10 mg/kg), or vehicle.

Determination of the isoflavone genistein in soybeans by high-performance liquid chromatography following cloud point extraction.

A simple and sensitive method has been developed for preconcentration and determination of genistein in soybeans. This method is based on cloud point extraction (CPE) of genistein from soybeans using ethylene glycol monoalkyl ether (Genapol X-080) as a nonionic surfactant. The concentration of extracted genistein was determined by HPLC with a UV detector.

In this paper, we present an implantable device for intra-cerebral electroencephalography (icEEG) data acquisition and real-time epileptic seizure detection with simultaneous focal antiepileptic drug injection feedback. This implantable device includes a neural signal amplifier, an asynchronous seizure detector, a drug delivery system (DDS) including a micropump, and a hybrid subdural electrode (HSE). The asynchronous detection algorithm is based on data-dependent analysis and validated with Matlab tools.

Mucoid Helicobacter pylori isolates with fast growth under microaerobic and aerobic conditions.

Background: Helicobacter pylori is microaerobic and turns into coccoid under aerobic conditions. In this study, two mucoid strains, A and D, were isolated from gastric biopsies which grew well on blood agar after 24-hour incubation under aerobic as well as microaerobic conditions. The aim of this study was to identify these strains and compare their growth under aerobic and microaerobic conditions with that of control H.

PloGO: plotting gene ontology annotation and abundance in multi-condition proteomics experiments.

We describe the PloGO R package, a simple open-source tool for plotting gene ontology (GO) annotation and abundance information, which was developed to aid with the bioinformatics analysis of multi-condition label-free proteomics experiments using quantitation based on spectral counting. PloGO can incorporate abundance (raw spectral counts) or normalized spectral abundance factors (NSAF) data in addition to the GO annotation, as well as handle multiple files and allow for a targeted collection of GO categories of interest. Our main aims were to help identify interesting subsets of proteins for further analysis such as those arising from a protein data set partition based on the presence and absence or multiple pair-wise comparisons, as well as provide GO summaries that can be easily used in subsequent analyses.
