Social media in pathology and laboratory medicine: A systematic review.

The use of social media platforms in pathology and medical laboratory science has increased in recent years, revolutionizing the way professionals in these fields interact, disseminate information, and collaborate. To gain an understanding of the current landscape regarding social media use in pathology and medical laboratory science, a novel systematic review was conducted. A search of PubMed, Medline, Embase, and Scopus was performed to identify articles evaluating social media use within pathology and medical laboratory science.

Emerging research has demonstrated the advantage of continuous glucose monitoring for use in artificial pancreas and diabetes management in general. Recent studies demonstrate that glucose level forecasting using deep learning can help avoid postprandial hyperglycemia (≥ 180 mg/dL) or hypoglycemia (≤70 mg/dL) from delayed or increased insulin dosing in artificial pancreas. In this paper, a novel hybrid deep learning framework with integration of content-based attention learning is presented, to effectively predict the glucose measurements with prediction horizons (PH) = 15, 30 and, 60 minutes for T1D and T2D patients based on past data.

Prognostic value of repeated peak oxygen uptake measurements in patients with a left ventricular assist device.

Background: Peak oxygen uptake (pVO) predicts mortality in patients with heart failure on left ventricular assist device (LVAD) support. This follow-up of the PRO-VAD study examines the prognostic value of repeated pVO measurements during long-term follow-up.

Methods: This multicenter follow-up study included patients from the original PRO-VAD cohort who performed a cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) twice.

The incidence of spondylodiscitis has witnessed a significant increase in recent decades. Continuous Glucose, Insulin and Lifestyle Data Augmentation in Artificial Pancreas Using Adaptive Generative and Discriminative Models.

Artificial pancreas requires data from multiple sources for accurate insulin dose estimation. These include data from continuous glucose sensors, past insulin dosage information, meal quantity and time and physical activity data. The effectiveness of closed-loop diabetes management systems might be hampered by the absence of these data caused by device error or lack of compliance by patients.

We identified 271 samples: 89 non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), 43 plasma-cell neoplasm (PCN), 41 histiocytoses, 27 myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), 25 diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), 22 myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN), 14 Hodgkin lymphoma (HL), and 10 acute myeloid leukaemia (AML).

Galleria mellonella larvae have emerged as an invertebrate model for investigating bacterial pathogenesis and potential therapies, addressing ethical concerns related to mammalian models. This model has the advantage of having a simple gut microbiome, which is suitable for gut colonization studies. Intestinal colonization by Enterobacteriaceae significantly contributes to the spread of antibiotic resistance.

The value of ultrasonography in predicting the outcomes of simple long bone fractures treated by closed intramedullary nail fixation.

Purpose: Ultrasonography has been used increasingly in orthopaedic practice credited to its low cost, easy accessibility, non-invasiveness, reproducibility, and safety from radiation. The purpose of this study was to test the validity and efficacy of ultrasonography as an adjunct in the assessment of fracture healing in long bones treated with intramedullary interlocking devices and its predictive value in determining the need for a secondary surgical procedure.

Methods: This was a descriptive longitudinal study of 40 skeletally mature patients who sustained long bone fractures of the tibia or femur treated using intramedullary interlocking nails.

Improving Transparency in the Residency Application Process: Survey Study.

Background: Increasing numbers of residency applications create challenges for applicants and residency programs to assess if they are a good fit during the residency application and match process. Applicants face limited or conflicting information as they assess programs, leading to overapplying. A holistic review of residency applications is considered a gold standard for programs, but the current volumes and associated time constraints leave programs relying on numerical filters, which do not predict success in residency.

Evolving educational landscape in pathology: a comprehensive bibliometric and visual analysis including digital teaching and learning resources.

Aims: Pathology education is a core component of medical training, and its literature is critical for refining educational modalities. We performed a cross-sectional bibliometric analysis to explore publications on pathology education, focusing on new medical education technologies.

Methods: The analysis identified 64 pathology journals and 53 keywords.

In this work, a novel deep learning model InsNET has been proposed to estimate the basal and bolus insulin level and insulin bolus in patients with type I diabetes utilizing subcutaneous insulin infusion pumps for closed loop diabetes management system.

Safety and efficacy of e-cigarettes in those with atherosclerotic disease: a review.

Smoking cessation is the most effective intervention to reduce mortality in patients with established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), with 'e-cigarettes' becoming an increasingly used intervention to achieve smoking cessation. The current review aims to summarise the current evidence base for their efficacy and safety in the ASCVD cohort. A search of the PUBMED and MEDLINE databases using the terms 'e-cigarette', 'cessation', 'safety' and 'efficacy' since 2012 yielded 706 results.
