Under natural conditions, biodegradation processes proceed slowly, especially in regions with low temperature. To activate vital processes in hydrocarbon-oxidizing microorganisms at low temperatures, biologically active compounds can be employed as growth stimulants. A low-temperature (10 °C) study has shown that tris-(2 hydroxyethyl) ammonium arylchalcogenylacetates, "protatranes" exert an effect on the growth of hydrocarbon-oxidizing strains of and , isolated from natural oil seepage on Lake Baikal.

By recrystallization from aqueous alcohol compound 2 unexpectedly gives Zn(OOCCH2SC6H4Cl-4)2 ∙ 2H2O (4). Unlike 2, compound 3 gives crystals [N(CH2CH2OH)3]2Ni2+ · [-OOCCH2SC6H4Cl-4]2 (5), which have a structure of metallated ionic liquid.

The structure has been proved by the data of elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, NMR (1H, 13C) technique and by X-ray diffraction analysis. Intermolecular hydrogen bonds between the azonium protons and oxygen atoms of the carboxylate groups were found.

The screening of 13 original compounds from the group of derivatives of arylheteroalkanecarboxylic acid on immunity were performed. The compounds exhibit strong myelostimulating/myelosuppressive property, increased or decreased influence on the: PFC (IgM and IgG), DTH at the sheep erythrocytes in CBF1 in vivo. In contrast, in vitro the compounds had no effect or inhibited the spontaneous, ConA or PWM induced proliferation of the splenocytes from normal mice.

It stimulated in vitro mononuclear cell proliferation in man due to its direct action on B lymphocytes and increase in lymphokine and monokine production.

A number of compounds having antiviral and antibacterial (antistaphylococcal) activity was found in the beta,beta-dichlorvinyl- and alpha-chlor(alpha-oxy)-beta,beta,beta-trichlorethylamide series of carboxylic acids. The antistaphylococcal activity of the compounds under study was found to depend, to a certain extent, ontheir chemical structure, whereas no such dependence was established in respect of their antiviral activity. In the treatment of combined influenza-staphylococcal infection a decrease in antistaphylococcal effect was observed, while antiviral activity remained stable.

Antiviral and antibacterial activity of chlorine-containing N-vinylpyrrholidon analogue - beta,beta-dichlorvinylpyrrholidon (first synthesized in 1970) was studied on a model of influenza A2 virus. Peculiarities of the influence of beta,beta-dichlorvinylpyrrholidon on the reproduction of microbial and viral agents under conditions of their isolated and combined cultivation were revealed.
