Negatively charged ions from the alpha particle tracks are detected by the discharge wire counter opened to the air. Ion clusters are transferred from the particle tracks to the detector volume by an air flux. It allows a remote detection of very low concentrations of alpha particles.

Geographical distribution of individual genotypes of Helicobacter pylori, predominance of virulent types in various regions of Russia, particularly in the Prymorye Territory, remains unclear. We examined 115 children with various gastroduodenal pathology and 33 patients with gastric cancer, of which 57.39 and 60% respectively were infected with H.

The examination and treatment of 64 patients have shown that inclusion of complex antioxidant cytoflavin in intensive therapy at the postoperative period of diffuse peritonitis allows the hypoxia degree to be decreased that in its turn results in quicker recovery of the antioxidant system and decreased activity of peroxidation and endotoxicosis level. The clinical course of the postoperative period of diffuse peritonitis with cytoflavin included in intensive therapy is characterized by shorter terms of artificial lung ventilation, shorter time of staying in critical condition, more favorable course of complications.

Better convenience and tolerability and sustained therapeutic concentrations might improve interferon (IFN) treatment for chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. In an open-label, randomized study, controlled release free (chemically unmodified) recombinant human IFN-α(2b) in poly(ether-ester) microspheres (CR-rhIFN-α(2b)), was injected at doses of 160, 320, 480 or 640 μg every 2 weeks for 12 weeks with concomitant weight-based oral ribavirin in 32 treatment-naïve patients with chronic HCV genotype 1. Treatment was well tolerated, with 31 patients (97%) successfully completing the study.

The simulations of the spatial distribution of rf power absorbed in a helicon ion source reveal a correlation between the depth of penetration of rf power into the plasma and the tilt angle of lines of force of the outer magnetic field. The deeper field penetration and greater power absorption were observed at large tilt angles of the field line to the plasma surface. The evaluations as to the possibility of excitation of helicon waves in compact rf ion sources were performed.

Various versions of an extraction system for a helicon ion source have been investigated in high plasma density (>10(12) cm(-3)) modes. The measurements of the plasma density were carried out with a microwave interferometer. Experiments were performed with hydrogen and helium gases.

The role of urogenical infection in males in present-day urology is demonstrated with a focus on fluoroquinolones efficacy in combined treatment of urogenital infection. The mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics, the spectrum of antimicrobial activity of a novel fluoroquinolone drug avelox are detailed. Avelox use in combined therapy of mono- and mixed infections caused by ureaplasmas, chlamidias, mycoplasms is illustrated by original experience of the authors.

The results of the study of sodium succinate efficacy in the treatment of 60 patients with ischemic stroke in comparison to the control group, not receiving antioxidants, are presented. The best results of sodium succinate were achieved in regress of local and general brain symptoms. The authors emphasize a possibility of the treatment at home and in outpatient clinic as well as cheaper price of sodium succinate versus other succinates.

Adsorbability of alginic acid and its salts extracted from brown seaweeds and character of their biological action were studied. The results of clinical tests alginic acid and its salts as well as of preparations and food-stuffs, prepared from Laminaria japonica Arech, were reflected. The potentialities of use of alginates and food-stuffs containing them in therapeutic nutrition was shown.

The basal activity of soluble rat myocardial guanylate cyclase (105000 x g supernatant) is stimulated by 2 mM dithiothreitol (2-fold). In the presence of 2 mM dithiothreitol, sodium nitroprusside enhances the enzyme activation up to 26.5-fold.

The activity of soluble guanylate cyclase (GC) and its regulation in the platelets and heart of normal rats and rats with experimental acute myocardial ischemia provoked by coronary ligation was examined. There was a synchronous reduction in platelet and heart GC activity immediately following 15 minutes after surgery along with a drastically marked drop in genuine baseline activity (with Mg2+) to 19 and 40% in the platelets and heart (both ischemic and intact areas), respectively. Following 24 hours, GC activity insignificantly rose (up to 35.

Duodenal bile in patients with viral hepatitis is characterized by reduction of the proteolytic and antiproteolytic activity. Relative indices (AP/P) increased in the convalescent period and reduced in chronic course of viral hepatitis. The authors present a scheme of proteolysis of the liver tissue with participation of pancreatic enzymes.

The authors studied the content of G, M, A, serum immunoglobulins and sodium, potassium and calcium electrolytes in the gallbladder bile in 65 patients with acute, protracted and chronic course of viral hepatitis. It was shown that the content and spectrum of bile immunoglobulins depended on the course of viral hepatitis.

The activity of soluble guanylate cyclase (GC) of rat heart and the regulatory activity of dithiothreitol (DTT) and sodium nitroprusside under ischemic myocardium damage caused by ligation of left coronary artery has been investigated. After coronary occlusion the GC activity in the presence of Mn2+ or Mg2+ decreases both in ischemic and in intact zones (40% from normal) in 15 min, in 24 h it more diminishes (up to 30%) in the ischemic zone, in intact zone it partially normalizes (up to 70%). The stimulatory effect of DTT on the GC activity in studied heart zones doesn't differ from control.

Changes of the content of bile acids, cholate-cholesterol coefficient, bile acid fraction ratios in the bile were assessed in patients with viral hepatitis and chronic cholecystitis. A scheme is proposed for evaluation of bile bladder function considering four states: functional hypocholia, cholecystitis, threat of cholelithiasis. It is shown that in 23-28% protracted convalescence in viral hepatitis and manifested in prolonged blood serum ALAT activity is caused by the presence of subclinical form of cholecystitis.

Central and peripheral hemodynamics, organic (cerebral) blood flow, hemostasis system, clinical and biochemical values were comprehensively studied in 112 pregnant females with various severity of late gestoses (LG). As a result, there were developed diagnostic criteria both for the levels of severity and for its grave complication--the syndrome of disseminated intravascular blood coagulation. In 61 females the developed methods of efficient intensive care permitted to continue pregnancy up to spontaneous delivery.

A study of bile protein fractions by means of polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis in patients with viral hepatitis revealed changes in the protein fraction range in those with a prolonged course of nonicteric convalescence manifested in an increase of the amylolytic and reduction of proteolytic fractions. It is suggested that enzymatic disorders of the pancreatic function may lead to development "enzymatic" cholecystitis and protracted convalescence of patients with viral hepatitis.

Basing on the known methods for measuring the proteolytic and antiproteolytic activities with the use of N-benzoyl-L-arginine-paranitroanilide, a synthetic substrate, the authors suggest measuring the bile proteolytic and antiproteolytic activities with the use of the same reagents. The examined parameters of the bile are calculated according to the formulae that rule out preliminary plotting of calibration curves. The inhibitory activity is expressed in kontrical antitrypsin activity units, the proteolytic one in the amount of paranitro-aniline per unit of time.

Studies of bilirubin absorption spectra by protein measurements with the use of the biuret test and Lowry's method have shown that bilirubin influences much the protein absorption spectrum, provoking higher results in examinations of the bile. To eliminate bilirubin effects, the authors recommend bilirubin extraction with ethyl-acetone mixture in a 1:1 ratio after protein sedimentation with trichloroacetic acid. The biuret test with bilirubin-free protein yields results compatible with those obtained by nonphotometric techniques not involving bilirubin effects.
