The use of 3D-printed gene-activated bone grafts represents a highly promising approach in the fields of dentistry and orthopedics. Bioresorbable poly-lactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) scaffolds, infused with adenoviral constructs that carry osteoinductive factor genes, may provide an effective alternative to existing bone grafts for the reconstruction of extensive bone defects. This study aims to develop and investigate the properties of 3D scaffolds composed of PLGA and adenoviral constructs carrying the BMP2 gene (Ad-BMP2), both in vitro and in vivo.

Pediatric sepsis presents a severe risk to immunocompromised children, especially those with cancer or pre-existing conditions, posing a significant threat to their lives. Cytokine hemadsorption has emerged as a promising therapeutic approach for managing sepsis and severe inflammatory conditions in critically ill patients. This innovative method involves eliminating pro-inflammatory cytokines from the bloodstream, targeting the underlying hyper-inflammatory response often seen in critical illnesses.

Article Synopsis
  • A 5-year-old boy diagnosed with hepatoblastoma had severe vascular involvement, making traditional tumor resection impossible, leading to treatment via liver transplantation.
  • After chemotherapy significantly lowered his alpha-fetoprotein levels, the boy underwent a complex transplant procedure due to extensive portal vein thrombosis and vascular transformation.
  • Post-surgery, the liver function improved significantly, indicated by reduced liver enzymes and satisfactory blood flow, despite the initial challenges of vascular abnormalities.

A new iminophosphonamine PhP(HNPbt)(NPbt) (1, HL) bearing chromophore 2-(phen-2'-yl)-1,3-benzothiazole (Pbt) substituents was synthesized and introduced into lanthanide complexes. It was found that salt metathesis reactions between KL (2) generated and LnCl lead to the formation of tris-iminophosphonamide complexes [LnL]L (Ln = Y (3), Sm (4), Gd (5), Dy (6)), regardless of the 2/LnCl ratio. Compounds 3-6 consist of a cationic fragment [LnL], where the lanthanide atom is surrounded by two rigidly κ-coordinated ligands, and an L anion residing in the outer coordination sphere.

The review article highlights the main stages of the formation of computed tomography (CT) as a key method used in modern cardiology. The progress of CT scanners is directly related to the increase in the number of detectors, and thus, with an increase in the number of simultaneously collected projections. Modern developments and future technologies in the field of further development of the technique, including CT angiography and other new methods for assessing coronary blood flow, are discussed.

Aim: To evaluate the changes in blood pressure (BP), the severity of pain syndrome and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) use patterns in patients hospitalized for elective arthroplasty of large joints of the lower extremities during the postoperative period.

Materials And Methods: This study included 374 patients. In all patients, medical history, antihypertensive therapy and history of NSAIDs usage were collected, BP was measured, and the severity of pain was assessed via a 10-point scale before surgery, as well as 1 and 3 months after arthroplasty.

Many studies have been conducted confirming the effect of uric acid (UA) on kidney function. It is obvious that there is a relationship between the effect of UA not only on kidney function, but also on the cardiovascular system, increasing cardiovascular risk. The review article provides basic information about the pathogenesis, principles and features of prescribing therapy to patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and cardiovascular disease.

Cardiovascular and respiratory diseases have been one of the leading causes of mortality in the world for over 15 years. According to the results of various studies, a clear connection was revealed between the incidence of influenza and the decompensation of cardiovascular diseases, which leads to the development of acute coronary syndrome, acute heart failure and myocardial infarction. Also, the incidence of influenza is associated with an increase in the length of hospitalization, treatment costs and patient mortality.

The molecular structures of complexes [Sm(Nacnac)I(thf)] (Nacnac = HC(C(Me)Ndipp), dipp = 2,6-diisopropylphenyl, thf = tetrahydrofuran) depending on the number of thf ligands are studied. The complete removal of thf from a known complex [Sm(Nacnac)I(thf)] leads to a tetranuclear product [Sm(Nacnac)I] (). The partial removal of thf results in mixtures of dinuclear [Sm(Nacnac)I(thf)] (), trinuclear [Sm(Nacnac)I(thf)] (), and tetranuclear [Sm(Nacnac)I(thf)] () complexes and , depending on the conditions.

Aim: The main aim of our study was to assess the role of risk factors in patients with previous contrast induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI) on a probability of a development of the new coronavirus infection.

Materials And Methods: Our study includes 65 patients with the history of CI-AKI after coronary angiography from 2013 to 2017 years; 10 of them had a new coronavirus infection, which had developed before November 2020. CI-AKI was defined as an increase of 25% or more, or an absolute increase of 0.

The aim of the study was the development of three-dimensional (3D) printed gene-activated implants based on octacalcium phosphate (OCP) and plasmid DNA encoding . The first objective of the present work involved design and fabrication of gene-activated bone substitutes based on the OCP and plasmid DNA with gene using 3D printing approach of ceramic constructs, providing the control of its architectonics compliance to the initial digital models. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and compressive strength analyses were applied to investigate the chemical composition, microstructure, and mechanical properties of the experimental samples.
