Factors that shape COVID-19 pediatric vaccine decision-making in rural agricultural communities: A qualitative study.

While COVID-19 immunizations can improve outcomes from SARS-CoV-2, vaccine rates in the United States have been lowest among children under age 11 and among rural agricultural communities. This study examined factors influencing pediatric COVID-19 vaccine uptake among rural agricultural and predominantly Hispanic communities in Washington State. We conducted in-depth interviews with school district employees and students and held English and Spanish focus group discussions with parents, all of which were audio-recorded and transcribed.

Refining Cultural Adaptations of a Behavioral Intervention for Latino Caregivers of People Living With Dementia: Qualitative Interview Study in Washington State.

Background:  In the United States, Latino caregivers of individuals with dementia face unique challenges and an elevated risk of adverse health outcomes. Despite the increasing prevalence of Alzheimer disease and related dementias among Latino adults, few evidence-based interventions are tailored to their cultural context. To address this gap, we examined the cultural adaptations required for the STAR caregivers (STAR-C) virtual intervention, an evidence-based intervention that educates family caregivers to manage behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia.

An agricultural community's perspectives on COVID-19 testing to support safe school reopening.

Introduction: School-based COVID-19 testing may be an effective strategy for reducing transmission in schools and keeping schools open. The study objective was to examine community perspectives on school-based COVID-19 testing as a mitigation strategy to support safe school reopening.

Methods: We conducted a qualitative study in Yakima County, an agricultural region of Washington state, where over half of residents are Hispanic/Latino.

Implementation studio: implementation support program to build the capacity of rural community health educators serving immigrant communities to implement evidence-based cancer prevention and control interventions.

Purpose: Rural community-based organizations (CBOs) serving immigrant communities are critical settings for implementing evidence-based interventions (EBIs). The Implementation Studio is a training and consultation program focused on facilitating the selection, adaptation, and implementation of cancer prevention and control EBIs. This paper describes implementation and evaluation of the Implementation Studio on CBO's capacity to implement EBIs and their clients' knowledge of colorectal cancer (CRC) screening and intention to screen.

A Multi-Study Synthesis of Facilitators and Barriers to SARS-CoV-2 Testing Enrollment in School Settings.

Objectives: Understanding the motivators and barriers to testing enrollment from different stakeholder perspectives is essential to increasing participation in school-based testing programs, particularly among underserved populations. This multistudy analysis aimed to identify facilitators and barriers to enrollment in school-based testing for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Methods: Four independent studies collected and analyzed qualitative data from study participants regarding: (1) motivators, benefits, and/or reasons for enrolling and/or participating in COVID-19 testing in schools; and/or (2) concerns, barriers, and/or negative outcomes related to COVID-19 testing in schools.

Reflections From School Communities in Underserved Populations on Childhood COVID-19 Vaccination.

Objectives: Outbreaks in vaccine-preventable diseases among children have increased, primarily among under- or unvaccinated subgroups. The influence and interaction of a child's school community on parental health care decisions, such as vaccination, has not been explored. Our study examined childhood coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine hesitancy within the context of school communities.

STAR-Caregivers Virtual Training and Follow-up: a cultural adaptation for Latino caregivers of people with dementia.

STAR-Caregivers Virtual Training and Follow-up (STAR-VTF) is an evidence-based intervention that teaches family caregivers how to manage behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia. The study objective was to identify what adaptations to STAR-VTF are needed to improve cultural relevance for Latino caregivers. A qualitative research study was conducted that interviewed Spanish- and English-speaking caregivers of people with dementia who self-identify as Hispanic/Latino (N = 30) and healthcare and social service providers of older Latino clients and/or Latino family caregivers (N = 14).

Acceptability of virtual therapy for postpartum women during COVID-19: A national mixed methods study.

Background: Postpartum depression (PPD) affects one in eight women in the U.S., with rates increasing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Engagement of Latino immigrant men who have sex with men for HIV prevention through eHealth: preferences across social media platforms.

Objective: eHealth has growing potential to enhance access to HIV prevention for hard to reach populations, including young Latino immigrant men who have sex with men (MSM) in the United States. We examined the feasibility and acceptability of using eHealth tools, specifically social media platforms, to facilitate HIV testing and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) uptake among this population.

Design: We utilized a community sensitive approach to conduct 30 in-depth interviews and five focus groups with young Latino immigrant MSM in Seattle, WA.

Family Caregiver Needs and Preferences for Virtual Training to Manage Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia: Interview Study.

Background: Behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) are associated with increased stress, burden, and depression among family caregivers of people with dementia. STAR-Caregivers Virtual Training and Follow-up (STAR-VTF) is adapted from an evidence-based, in-person program that trains family caregivers to manage BPSD. We used a human-centered design approach to obtain feedback from family caregivers about STAR-VTF.

Women's Autonomy in Infant Feeding Decision-Making: A Qualitative Study in Nairobi, Kenya.

Background: Exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) is the optimal way to feed young infants. Guidelines recommend that women living with HIV on antiretroviral therapy should EBF for 6 months and continue breastfeeding for up to 24 months or longer. Parents may face social or logistical barriers creating challenges to EBF.
