Article Synopsis
  • The study explored the effects of two methods for discontinuing long-term hormone therapy in postmenopausal women, comparing abrupt versus gradual cessation.
  • After 12 months, while both groups experienced similar climacteric symptoms, those who stopped abruptly had more severe vasomotor symptoms in the initial months, but by six months, the gradual group reported worse symptoms.
  • Overall, the study concluded that gradually stopping hormone therapy only delayed symptom recurrence, without preventing or reducing the discomfort associated with hormone withdrawal.
