Background: In comparison to the general population, prison inmates are at a higher risk for drug abuse and psychiatric, as well as infectious, diseases. Although intramural health care has to be equivalent to extramural services, prison inmates have less access to primary and secondary care. Furthermore, not every prison is constantly staffed with a physician.

Video consultations (VC) have been implemented in many different health care settings and may also be useful in correctional facilities. As part of a pilot project, synchronous VC were implemented in five correctional facilities in Germany in June 2018.

It remains unclear whether and to which extent specialized medical postpartum care is sought. We aimed to assess current utilization of postpartum primary and specialized care and medication prescription behavior in women who experienced preeclampsia.

This observational cohort study aimed to examine the association between preeclamptic pregnancies and cardiovascular outcomes as well as primary and specialized care utilization after delivery.
Methods: Using statutory claims data we identified women with singleton live births between 2010 and 2017.
Women with complications of pregnancy such as preeclampsia and preterm birth are at risk for adverse long-term outcomes, including an increased future risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). This observational cohort study aimed to examine the risk of CKD after preterm delivery and preeclampsia in a large obstetric cohort in Germany, taking into account preexisting comorbidities, potential confounders, and the severity of CKD. Statutory claims data of the AOK Baden-Wuerttemberg were used to identify women with singleton live births between 2010 and 2017.

Amidst a lack of medical staff, video consultations were offered in five correctional facilities in Baden-Württemberg in 2018 as part of a pilot project. This evaluation study aimed at assessing the acceptance of video consultations among patients.

The present study aimed to identify setting-specific risk profiles of malnutrition in older adults and to investigate the association of the number of individual risk factors with malnutrition.
Design: Data of four cross-sectional studies were harmonized and uniformly analysed.
Background: Previous studies have shown that the presence of anemia is associated with increased short- and long-term outcomes in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). This study aims at examining the impact of admission anemia on long-term, all-cause mortality following AMI in patients recruited from a population-based registry. Contrary to most prior studies, we distinguished between patients with mild and moderate to severe anemia.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Conflicting with clinical practice guidelines, recent studies demonstrated that serum potassium concentrations (SPC) of ≥4.5 mEq/l were associated with increased mortality in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). This study examined the association between SPC and long-term mortality following AMI in patients recruited from a population-based registry.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Paradoxically, beneficial effects of overweight and obesity on survival have been found in patients after cardiovascular events such as acute myocardial infarction (AMI). This obesity paradox has not been analyzed in AMI patients with diabetes even though their cardiovascular morbidity and mortality is increased compared to their counterparts without diabetes. Therefore, the objective of this long-term study was to analyze the association between body mass index (BMI) and all-cause mortality in AMI patients with and without diabetes mellitus.
