Total arch replacement remains a very demanding surgical procedure. It can be associated with reasonable long-term outcomes but carries serious perioperative complications. Aortic arch surgery has progressed in recent years to a wider adoption of reproducible and reliable techniques.

Neither cardiac nor vascular surgeons have ever considered the aorta as a whole, which can be diseased throughout its length at the same time requiring a more thoughtful and different approach. Aortic dissection and aneurysmal disease may well benefit from a multidisciplinary approach.

Given the involvement of the superior mesenteric artery and concern for bowel ischaemia, a delayed approach was considered. Subsequently, a frozen elephant trunk was performed in the hybrid theatre with the back-up of the vascular surgeon for mesenteric protection.

Specific groups are at higher risk of this problem. A few studies have evaluated the predictive risk factors of inadequate pain management.

Only a GLP-1 receptor PET/CT using Exendin-4 visualized the pancreatic lesion and enabled curative therapy, confirming the diagnostic value of this tracer for detection of neuroendocrine tumours. As only few publications on this topic are available, an overview of the available data is also given.

Recently, the monoclonal anti-EGFR antibody Necitumumab in combination with gemcitabine and cisplatin was approved (EMA/14106/2016) for first-line treatment of squamous non-small cell carcinoma (SqNSCLC). Eligibility was restricted to cases with positive EGFR expression.

Materials: The target group in this study was patients with colonic polyps in Hazrat_e Rasoul_e Akram Hospital. Pathologic evaluation of these patients was done.
Being among the most common cancers worldwide screening and early diagnosis of colorectal cancer is of high interest for the health system, the patients and for research. Raman microspectroscopy as a label-free, non-invasive and non-destructive technique is a promising tool for an early diagnosis. However, to ensure a reliable diagnosis specially designed statistical analysis workflows are required.

A subset of patients with coeliac disease (CD) suffers persistent or recurrent complaints despite a strict adherence to a gluten-free diet (GFD) that can be caused by refractory coeliac disease (RCD). We present a patient with weight loss and signs of malassimilation secondary to villous atrophy and jejunal ulcerations complicating known CD. We demonstrate a stepwise approach to the diagnosis and subtyping of RCD and to rule out important alternative causes of jejunal ulcerations.

We present the case of a 43-year old caucasian male suffering from a condition initially diagnosed as colitis ulcerosa. For 2 years Azathioprine and anti-TNF-alpha antibodies were used for treatment without convincing benefit but with serious adverse events. After the first occurrence of complex accompanying symptoms like oral and scrotal ulcerations, arthritis and scratch-induced skin lesions the differential diagnosis of a Morbus Adamantiades-Behçet with intestinal evolvement was considered.

In this study were evaluated the effects of cryotherapy by histological verification of changes in post treatment resection specimens. Fifty-three patients in age of 38-81 year with histologically confirmed breast cancer in needle biopsies were managed by cryotherapy between 1999 and 2007.

The results of these 2 methods were compared. Immunohistochemistry staining for p504s and p63 was performed on sections from 42 patients with a primary diagnosis of ASAP.

Methods: From 2008 to 2013, data regarding demographics, aneurysm morphology, procedure, and follow-up were collected prospectively on all patients treated for pseudoaneurysms after CoA repair.
DIPNECH is regarded as a precursor lesion of neuroendocrine lung tumors, specifically carcinoids. A relationship with lung adenocarcinomas has not been clearly established so far. We present a series of four cases with a concomitant presence of adenocarcinoma and DIPNECH in the lung.

Two main members of desmosomal cadherins, desmogleins (DSGs) and desmocollins (DSCs), are involved in carcinogenesis. However, their role in human lung cancer remained elusive.

To evaluate the significance of FGFR1 in lung cancer, we analysed tumours by immunohistochemistry (IHC) and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). Tissue microarrays were constructed containing 380 lung cancer samples including squamous cell carcinomas (SCC), adenocarcinomas (ADC), non-small cell lung cancer not otherwise specified, metastases, neuroendocrine tumours, large cell lung cancer and small cell lung cancer.

The aims of this study were to analyze CK expression and to evaluate the diagnostic application of CKs in human non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
Methods: mRNA expression of CK5, CK6, CK14, CK15, CK17, and CK19 was analyzed by Northern blotting.
Introduction: Mannose-binding lectin (MBL) is a part of the innate immune system. Many studies showed an association of low serum MBL levels with decreased host defense against various infectious agents. Considering paradoxical reports about the serum level of MBL in hemodialysis patients, this study aimed to measure and compare serum MBL levels in hemodialysis patients and healthy individuals.

Objective: To evaluate the outcome of hybrid treatment of the aortic arch with supra-aortic debranching and endovascular stent-graft repair in a selected group of patients with complex disease.
Design: Case series study with retrospective analysis of prospectively collected non-randomised data.
Methods: Patients with hybrid repair of complex arch disease at a single centre over a 6-year period were enrolled in the study.
Acute type A aortic dissection can be complicated by visceral malperfusion and is associated with a significant surgical morbidity and mortality. We describe a case of successful management of a complex acute type A dissection with mesenteric and lower limb ischemia treated with endovascular thoracic stenting and femoro-femoral crossover bypass grafting followed by aortic arch repair. To accomplish this, we applied a staged therapeutic approach using serial lactate measurements to assess the adequacy of peripheral perfusion and metabolic status prior to surgical repair of the proximal dissection.

Materials: A generalized algorithm was developed that permits the evaluation of diagnosis-associated image features obtained from hematoxylin-eosin-stained histopathologic slides. The procedure was tested for screening of tumor tissue vs.
Purpose: To present a technique that addresses the problem of passing guiding catheters through a stent-graft fenestration and into the target orifice over the wire within the visceral vessel when the fenestration is remote from the top cap.
Technique: A compliant molding balloon is introduced into the main body of the stent-graft and inflated above the fenestration to fill the redundant space in the proximal stent-graft to prevent upward angulation and subsequent displacement of the wire from the target vessel when a less flexible catheter is passed.
Conclusion: This technique is useful in cases with tortuous and complex anatomy and may reduce overall procedure times.
Background: Automated image analysis, measurements of virtual slides, and open access electronic measurement user systems require standardized image quality assessment in tissue-based diagnosis.
Aims: To describe the theoretical background and the practical experiences in automated image quality estimation of colour images acquired from histological slides. THEORY, MATERIAL AND MEASUREMENTS: Digital images acquired from histological slides should present with textures and objects that permit automated image information analysis.
